Police on the West Demerara are seeking a gunman who robbed the On-The-Go Service station at Nismes on Tuesday night while a 17-year-girl will shortly be charged for robbery under arms in a separate incident.
On Tuesday night at about 7:20, a man, who was armed with a handgun walked into the On-The-Go Service station, located at Nismes, West Bank Demerara and pretended that he was there to purchase oil. Police sources said that as the pump attendant went to get the oil, the bandit pulled out the gun and relieved the pump attendant of $25,000, which represented the gas sales. At gunpoint, he forced the attendant into the mini-mart and took another $10,000 from the cash register there. The bandit gun-butted the attendant while demanding more money and grabbed a cellular-phone top-up machine and escaped. Police are continuing their investigations into this matter. This service station had been robbed before.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old girl has been detained and is expected to be charged soon with robbery under arms. Police sources said that on Saturday night the girl was drinking with two male youths at one of the youths’ Versailles, West Bank Demerara home. During that time, a knock was heard on the door and when it was opened two men, one of whom was armed with a shotgun, barged in.
A third man was waiting in a car. The bandits robbed the youths of gold and silver jewellery worth over $1M and escaped in the waiting car.
Under questioning the girl reportedly admitted that she had called her boyfriend and he sent the men to commit the crime. The two calls were recorded on her cellular phone. She reportedly denied that her boyfriend was part of the trio that committed the robbery. The other men are being sought and police sources said that the girl is likely to be charged today. Guyana’s youth are being left to the wild concrete jungle to fend for themselves, those in authority should remove the pride and reintroduce the GNS and teach them to use their hands and minds in a productive manner.
Only pioneers can develop any nation and the GNS would be an excellent choice for Guyana. But for administrative pride, the children of Guyana are becoming semi-feral and predatory.
There is no concrete jungle in Guyana and only a few like this teen, choose the path of easy money and the expense of those who try to eke out a living. Where are her parents and what type of home she grew up in to be allowed at that age to be drinking with men? She made her chioce and must pay the price.
Like the saying goes “Children live what they see”. What incentive is there for them to pursue the normal route to success – stay in school, study hard and be rewarded with a good paying job.
When they can look around their community and see semi-illiterate acquaintances who never finished high school driving around in flashy vehicles, whereas on the other hand public servants even with university degrees are “catching hell”.
The absence of male role models in the home doesn’t do anything to help, fathers need to be there for their children; a casual check of the background of most of these juvenile offenders will reveal either a broken or single parent home.
This is something that society urgently needs to address, we start by doing like the British – Father’s name must be on the birth certificate when the child is being registered and take from there. No compromise when it comes to child support garnishing of wages and strict enforcement of the edits of the courts when it comes to the protection and rights of children.
well at least no one got hurt.she was a good bandit.live and let live.
The gas station was robbed before and not a camera was placed their after the previous robbery , well if they can’t improve security, it will happen again. As for the teen ,send her to Brickdam lockup , bet you she will start going to church after this whole charade is over .
