A taxi driver who allegedly kidnapped a woman  was remanded to prison on Wednesday when he appeared before Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Avery Scott, 32,  was charged with kidnapping Tracy Daniels and he was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

It is alleged that on the 9th August Scott picked up Daniels outside Demico House to take her home but instead drove to a house in Victoria, East Coast Demerara.

The prosecution stated that  from information gathered Scott on his way to take Tracy home picked up a male passenger and told her that she would be dropped home when he had dropped off the man. Instead he drove her to Victoria and allegedly threatened to kill her if she resisted. Tracy subsequently managed to telephone her sister who in turn called the police. The police arrived at the Victoria home and Scott was arrested.

Scott’s lawyer applied for an early date for trial but Magistrate Beharry asked for the matter to be sent to the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

The case is to continue on 25th August.

he should be jailed.men think they can just do as they like with women.they don’t own us

  2. this taxi driver must be touch in the head to carry away a woman just like that, did she scream for help after realizing she was being taken in the wrong direction. did she tried to resist at anytime or she simply comply. some piece of evidence here is missing.

Of course the news article did not give the whole story and you guys do raise some valid points, however… what seems to be consistent and inexcusable is that the young lady was being held against her will. There can be no excuse for that!

One does wonder how Guyana’s Finest were able to locate the home so quickly. Somehow I am thinking that the GPF does not possess the technology to triangulate and locate cell phones. Location by tracing the GPS in the phone unit seems to be out of the question as well for Guyana’s Finest. Was the young lady able to provide the exact location where she was being held to the GPF? One wonders that if she was abducted by a stranger how she was able to provide the exact location to her sister who in turn was able to give the same accurate directions to the GPF. One wonders doesn’t one?

“…more in de morta than the pistle…” you bet!

Who does he think he is? People should object to other persons getting into a taxi that they have already hired. This is nonsense. The law should give him the full penalty that the case deserves

something is fishy about this story.

  6. ankoko UNITED STATES says:

No matter what it began as. No matter what ingredients (seems to be a lot) are missing from the mortar the issue here isthat at some point the woman said NO! After the woman said NO it should have ended right there! However difficult that may have seemed to him and his ‘partner’. If he stops and lets her go, maybe next time she’ll view him as being worthy of her favours.
