Following the discovery of a number of items by the police in the East Coast Demerara village of Buxton on Monday, the Joint Services are said to be working diligently to track down a gang of gunmen who may have returned to the community, a source told this newspaper yesterday.
The source who was skeptical about linking the lawmen’s two most recent finds told this newspaper yesterday that the two metal vaults and a briefcase which were stolen from the CB&R Mining Company in Bartica the night that community came under siege, had been found buried along the Makouria trail (Region 10).
The source noted that things were happening and the police were optimistic that a breakthrough was imminent.
Until now the police have not officially said where the vaults and the briefcase were found, neither have they commented on exactly where in Buxton – in a house or elsewhere – the articles including the .30 Carbine (rifle) were discovered.
Police revealed that the weapon found was one of those stolen from the Bartica Police Station.
This newspaper’s source said this revelation pointed to the possibility that fragments of the gang which had staged the daring robberies and murders may have been able to trickle past the Joint Services cordon and had returned to the village for safe haven.
Neither the police nor the army has ever commented officially on whether the ranks who were dispatched to the area on June 6 when intelligence led them to Christmas Falls, had been withdrawn from the area.
The lawmen were thought to have had the gang cornered and had assured the nation that the men would be caught.
Following the discovery of the items which included the vaults, no update on the progress of the lawmen’s search has been forthcoming.
When this newspaper visited Buxton the day the discoveries were made, residents there denied any knowledge of an exchange of gunshots.
They had noted though, an increase in the number of lawmen in the village.
This newspaper was also told that a team from the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority had not been allowed to go aback of the village to inspect the dam there.
Police on Tuesday night in a statement said an operation in the Buxton backlands between Sideline Dam and Middle Walk Dam on Monday had resulted in the discovery of a .30 Carbine (rifle), 238 7.62×39 rounds, 76 .30 rounds, 2 spent 7.62×39 shells, 2 magazines for the .30 Carbine, 1 AK-47 magazine, 1 fragmentation grenade, 1 Bible, 4 camouflage hammocks, 1 machete, 1 blue tarpaulin, 2 black backpacks, 2 knapsacks, 2 pairs of boots, 2 pairs of rubber slippers, 1 toque, 1 tin CRC, 2 jars peanut butter, 2 bed sheets, 5 pants, 7 jerseys, 2 black leather belts, 1 duffle bag, 2 pairs of yellow and green slippers, 2 cellular phones (Motorola and Nokia), 1 small bottle iodine, 13 pain killing tablets, 1 large bottle baby oil, 3 toothbrushes, 1 toothbrush case, 3 tubes Colgate toothpaste and 2 bottles of deodorant.

This is where crredibility comes into play;
Releasing information which could have double or various interpretations,
gives police credibility zero marks. The find is fine news but the lack of details
creates some doubt on whether the find was in that territory or a plant by
unidentified personnel.
Where is the sensibile thinking of the police?
How can they get the help, cooperation and assistance of the “people” when
they fail to be clear and sincere at crucial times? The people around the area
would cooperate if the police demonstrate sincerity in their efforts to solve
crime;
When credibility is lacking, every action seems suspect and will be viewed
with suspicion. Time for some serious trainng in psychology for the police.
Veecock, do you look at old movies? If you dont, please look at movies of the keystone cops. After you do you will see the similarity between the keystone cops and the Guyana Police Force. There is talent in the force, but those with talent are not given the oportunity to function in a way that would effect positive results. The management style of senior officers still reflect that of Colonial rulers. Junior officers are frustrated by the barriers they encounter in the performance of their duties. As a result their responses to proper investigative techniques and reporting are done in a way that minimizes conflict with their superiors. If these officers/constables/rank demonstrate initiative and independence they often hear the following from their superiors:”that is dumb insolence”, “do not speak to me in that manner”, do you want to lose this job” I say no more.
This story is confusing we were told that the backlands were cleared and the joint serveices had occupied the area and are camping out there, if so how come these men were able to return there. and on the find which were reported to have been found in the linden area, now we have been told it was found in buxton. Is someone playing games with us or they think we are stupid.
they always think that guyanese living in guyana ” STUPID “
These different reports say that the police are just as confused as I am.
It is so difficult to accept ehat the police (according to the media) are saying every time.
there is a sense the govt. of guyana and the security forces truly believe
that the guyanese people have an IQ of a 9 yr old
They not only cleared the backland s of Buxton but also pay million$ for their rich farm land…..that they destroy and criminals are still there?? IT can’t be fine man gang because comrade Greeene and comrade Rohee said they cornered then at christmas falls…lol
This is where the media in Guyana have a chance to review all these various breifings from the authorities and be able to point out the various inconsistencies in statements and demand proper explanations for the general public. It is quite clear that a lot of the explanations given by the various institutions on this issue just don’t add up a lot of the stories are conflicting and just keep on adding on to this bizzare situation. And the only persons who stand to benefit from all these continuous stories are the powers that be.
The gunmen are ghosts…therefore they keep eluding the policemen. As a matter of fact, that’s how they went back to Buxton and buried those things found.
Congratulations to the Joint Services.
You have cleared the back lands and I assume tactically that Buxton is kept under surveilance. Yet you are being fired upon and are still finding caches of weapons and supplies. What are we to believe? When will this saga ends? I strongly recommend three Oscars, one for Green, one for the script writer, and one collectively for the Joint Services. However, the Commish will have to have his Oscar overnighted by Fed Ex unless the Academy can convince the State Department otherwise.
very well put sheik .
When will you people understand that anything the Police tells you should be taken with a grain of salt.
INACURACIES, SPECULATIONS, WHO TO BELIEVE ON THIS CRUCIAL AND SERIOUS SITUATION THAT IS HAPPENING IN GUYANA RIGHT NOW THE GOVERNMENT MUST BE PUT TO BLAME FORTHIS DECEPTION AND DECEIVING THE GUYANESE PEOPLE
