Even with the Joint Services’ recent success in the slaying of wanted men Rondell `Fineman’ Rawlins and Jermaine `Skinny’ Charles, the much talked about video footage showing the notorious Buxton gang in operation, would not be released since government believes that many of the elements are still out there.

The revelation of the existence of such tapes first came to the fore when President Bharrat Jagdeo, at a media briefing back in June, told reporters that the Joint Services were in possession of tapes in which Rawlins and others were featured aback of the troubled East Coast Demerara village.

Speaking to reporters following the conclusion of the orientation session for Cuban Scholarship Awardees yesterday, Jagdeo said the video tapes would not be released as that would betray where they were taken from and might put persons at risk.

“We still feel that there may be elements of the gang that are out there and we are actively pursuing them now. In fact I had a report that they are still looking for some members of the gang,” he responded in answer to a question about whether the tapes would be released now that the two notorious men are dead.

The President stressed that even though “Fineman and Skinny” along with several other gang members are dead, there are still others out there adding that those the criminals have “a support infrastructure that we are trying to dismantle”.

Acting on a tip-off, last Thursday teams from the Joint Services Operation Group and the Guyana Defence Force Special Force along with members of the Special Forces proceeded to an area in Timehri about 500 metres east of the GDF ammunition dump. There, the lawmen said, they came under fire from shooters in an identifiable house. They returned fire and saw three men running from the house. When they descended on the scene they found the body of a man who was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The man was identified as Seon Grant.

The two men who had fled ended up in Kuru Kururu at a place villagers call Kakabura in a small, unfinished concrete structure. There was an exchange of gunfire around 12.45 pm in which two men, later identified as Rawlins and Charles, were killed.

I don’t get it if the govt is claiming they have this tape what is the fear in releasing this tape, the public want to know who are the people who’s helping him, and how the got his finance. We want the people who helped him to be prosecuted to the fullest of the law. On the other hand if the govt cant put up they should shut up. In other countries if they have such tape it would be aired in prime time news to show that a crime is commited and most time the public would help to give info that will sometimes capture the bandits. So why is the govt holding back or they just full of hot air.

  2. Badlall CANADA says:

In other words it will be released at a time when it can gain political mileage…….like in 2010….The tapes if they exist should be viewed by a select panel of politicians and journalists……..then again so should the TORTURE report..

  3. vijay deo CANADA says:

Its a criminal offense to keep this video locked away.It has evidence of collusion and abetting of unlawful individuals.Maybe Jagdeo is guilty of a crime here. All I am asking for everyone..I repeat everyone who is involved in crime whether white or blue collar should be jailed.
Fineman and Skinny got what they deserve…Roger Khan will get what he deserves…and I hope someday politicians and government officals will get this same treatment.

My…my… how could the Presee make such a big big mistake with promises
    of the release?

Well in some way he has admitted his error but we should not pounce upon
as being a bit hasty at that time. Sometimes in the heat of the moment we
overstep and so be it with His Excellency.

Posters be guarded in your responses, and don”t make the Moderator”s

  6. colt45 UNITED STATES says:

The law enforcement agencies has the right to keep this tape under wraps until all the gang members are caught and since it will put others at risk, that is the most obvious reason. If the public want to see a gang in action, go to a movie.

    • bgsbny UNITED STATES says:

….. the very same thread was evident b4 the “things” were exterminated conjectures,, fabrications ,, and more ,, until it became redundant !,, there is obviously more to the tapes/s than the President care to divulge ,, and this may well be the overiding factor in the decision of what not to make public ,,,,

    • onepeople UNITED STATES says:

Keep tapes under wrap,ha ha why announce then withdraw what a big bluff put others at risk if you will put others at risk then why say you have a tape in the first place .Who the gov trying to bluff or scare. Colt45 please you know the truth.

  7. RDMAN UNITED KINGDOM says:

I don’t buy president Jagdeo’s theory, saying that because there are still criminal elements out there, the joint services cannot release the tapes,mr.president you already give away the positions of where the cameras are,you said they are mounted on some houses in Buxton and they are wired on informers who met with the criminals,so i don’t see why the tapes should not be released.

  8. torbo UNITED STATES says:

mr. president spare us the rhetoric sir, this is another ppp propaganda to
their supporters, you have a tape with footage of pilticians meeting with a
community and addressing their concerns your so call footage is not worth
    the tape its on.

  9. gtgyal TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS says:

i would believe the tapes exist once they can be viewed! these people need to stop blabbering and give the people someting to believe in…talk is just talk do some action!! its just a big mockery! stop making people fools!

  10. ALL_GT UNITED STATES says:

This is a joke. It appears that the president has never heard of video editing. There is no tape ! This is a bluff. If there was a tape, why have they not arrested the individuals seen with the bandits on the tape. The same way they could have made the tape of meetings they could have swooped down on them and arrested them. But they allowed them to roam and commit more murders. There is no TAPE!!!!.

    • mudhead UNITED STATES says:

The tape got more comments than the killing. Who says it is politicians on the tape and if so what makes it illegal? If not why not keep tape and keep investigating people on it. There is still time for its eventful release at trial. Some comments are unbelieable, who and where are these people from?
