Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday granted $150,000 bail to a man who allegedly stole $1.2 million worth of wire rope.
Robin Rogers of Lot 42 Kaneville, East Bank Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny when it was read to him.
It is alleged that on August 31 at 149 Pike Street, Kitty the man stole one roll of wire rope worth $1.2 million, property of Jhamad Persaud.
Rogers was placed on $150,000 bail and he is to return to court on October 8.

Is this making any sense.? Man steels 6000 US dollars of wire rope. This is known as simple larceny.Man is allowed bail of 750 us dollars. Is’nt this encouraging them to continue to steal. In the eyes of the criminal this is very profitable. Stiffer penalties and sentences must be laid down . How on earth is Guyana going to get anywhere, when these thieves have no respect for their fellow guyanese , and their property. We need a bigger jail..
Owen, the operative word is “allegedly”, its seems that you have already determined guilt. Everyone should be afforded due process, even in a third world nation like Guyana.
