I NOW know, that a house is being constructed at the Gafoors’ Industrial site, and will be transported in sections, and assembled, on the lady’s land, as soon as possible.

This is a gift from His Excellency Sattaur Gafoor, and Mrs. Ameena Gafoor, from Gafsons’ Group of Companies.

I am very confident, if, Gafoors’ promised to build a house, then it will be built, BUT, it cannot happen in a day.

Logistics have to be arranged with a contractor, and this takes time.

I am sure, this will be a donation from the Gafoors’ NOT their EMPLOYEES.

All in Guyana, know of the Gafsons’ Group and their many assistances to the needy.

I am in Pennsylvania, USA, and will be in touch with Gafsons’ in Guyana, for the latest update.

brave’s daughter again i noticed everyone is thanking gafoors but they did’nt do anything yet the only thing they did so far is get them selves on the front page.ovena is still waiting for those measurements that never happened today look my word is my bond so when i make a promise i make it happen i guess thats not the same for the gafoors.SN maybe you could give them a call big names usually respond 2 big names plus thats a sure way 2 get them back on front street give it a try.

this is brave’s daughter today i started shopping for the kids keith is a size 4t and Linda is a size 5 girls. i’m awaiting their shoe measurement to be faxed to me however Ovena wears a size 7 shoes. thanks for all your help in advance and if you live in the ATL area maybe we could get together and set up an organization not just to benefit the Braithwaite family but all parents who are less fortunate and struggling blog if youre interested.i donated school supplies last year to the primary School i attended as a child and i’m proud to say the kids are still using the supplies today just think how may more schools could be helped in the same way after all its for our leaders of tomarrow.in ending i’m sure heard this phrase before God dont come but he sends( think).luv BD

A big thank you to all you guys (and gals) that contacted me in referrence to getting articles of clothing to the needy in Guyana at the email address that I gave. (guyanafilms@yahoo.com) Some folks are on the West coast of the US and sending ’stuff’ from the West coast to the East coast where I am is almost like sending it to Guyana. If there is anyone on the West coast who would like to take up the challenge to be a clearing house for anything that needs to be sent to Guyana for the needy please contact me and let us do this.

I was also able to give a few folks the contact info for the shippers in Atlanta that promised to send “charity” money to Guyana for anyone in Atlanta who might be interested please buzz me and I will give you the address.

The people response to this woman’s situation demonstrates the decency and humaninty that still exists in the average Guyanese.

No one in Guyana deserves to live in absolute poverty. This is what racial politics have done to us.

There is already an establish body with links in Guyana that can service this ara of need. It is a non profit organisation which already sent relief aid to Guyana in the past and I know will be willing to do in the future. It is called HUMAN CONCERN INTERNATIONAL.Contant then ther are already established and trustworthy.

Update for Ovena Braithwaite, Brave is some Woman she is the best and very generous, she sent money home to her relative to purchase food, clothing and a cell phone for her, that is compassion and love from the heart. By the way Gaffor employees was a no-show today as promised. They promised to go today and take the measurements to start on the house but did not kept their promise. I am going to make a phone call this evening when I get home from work to Ovena.

I have made contact with Ms Braithwaite and her friend Anne.Anne said that her phone fell so often that sometimes it does not ring.at time of typing Gafoor has not been back to measure the place.Ms Braithwaite stated that she is afraid that they will not keep their promise.She received from me 40,000 gt dollars in which food,cell phone and clothing were bought for herself and kids.She also receive some money.I promise her that I am sending money for her to visit a Doctor since she told me that a nurse check on her.Concerning her sight she told me that she was born with poor vision that she had her eyes tested once but was told that she does not need glasses.She is well spoken and thanked me for assisting her and kids.I informed her that many people are trying to help but could not get through to her friend’s phone,hence the reason I bought her her own phone.I am collecting a donation from my job people are just willing to give when i show them the story.I am also in a process of sending of a barrel with baby clothes and food stuff.My family member is also assisting to get her birthcertificate.Ovena’s cell # is 592 672-8878.I told her that she can start expecting calls .Sandra i just read your blog and yes you can just call Ovena and she will tell you who to send the clothes to Let us keep up the good work.

When would the Goverment of Guyana put the proper social funding system in place to help there citizens in these conditions and the GUYANA ELECTICITY COMPANY should stop SELLING these residents in YARROWKABRA area LIGHT POLES what is wrong in with this Govermentol Institutions in this land.

It’s good to know that you, too, want to know what the Amerindian Affairs Ministry is doing to help Oveta and to ensure that similar stuff like this does not happen.

I’m sure that there are many more Oveta’s out there in our rural areas.

Nonetheless, it’s good to see the overwhelming support of Guyanese at home and abroad to this mother’s plight. But we have to look beyond the here and now and stop plastering sores.

We have to get to the root of the canker called poverty. It cannot be easily eradicated, but surely it can be brought to a level that is tolerable.

I intend to follow through on my pledge and intend to demonistrate that I am not all talk and emotionalism. If there are others like me who live in foreign countries and would like to do something for our people back home (I know Malaika06 to be one such) then we could sieze this opportunity to give back to the place that we were born.

This assistance that I am talking about here transcends race, religion and political affiliation. Plain and simple it is just about reaching out and touching someone, helping people who for what ever reason, cannot help themselves like Ovena Braithwaite.

If after the big hue and cry and emotionalism of this woman’s unfortunate plight dies down and any of you still feel a desire to, in what ever way you can, help her and other unfortunate people back in the country of your birth, please contact me at guyanafilms@yahoo.com and let us get to work setting up some kind of benevolent organisation whose sole purpose will be to assist especially destitute women and children of Guyana.

Stabroek News, we need to hear more of these stories. We need to see faces and get to know people who are in desperate need and have no other place to turn for help. Some of us need a little jump start as it were and others need to see the tangible results of their sacrifice. Please continue to bring sad plights from the back burner and a place where no one seems to care, and areate it and let it see the light of day.
