The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) will decide in another few days whether Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys returns to the bench following extensive deliberations among its members on the shooting incident in which he was involved with a member of the police force two months ago.
While the Director of Public Prose-cutions, Shalimar Ali-Hack had recommended that no charges be laid against Gilhuys due to deficient police statements, the JSC is likely to examine a range of issues including the Magistrate’s conduct, and its effect on the position he holds.
Stabroek News was informed that the DPP’s review of the case is also likely to carry some weight in the JSC deliberations; and that Magistrate Gilhuys, who proceeded on leave to facilitate the investigations, may have to appear before the JSC during its deliberations. (See other story on page 10.)

Quote ” Stabroek News was informed that the DPP’s review of the case is also likely to carry some weight in the JSC deliberations…”
Hopefully this is a correct comment by SN. I have my reservations.
Now:
1. who are these members?
2. any of them related to the person under review?
3. is the DPP also a member?
Magistrate Gilhuys has been exonerated by the DPP and the COP.
Conclusion?…he is home free !
Read article 198 and 199 of the Guyana constitution and your questions will be answered. Say thanks Ulric.
Why not? This nothing to what he got away with in the past, the next time the police tries to do any wrong to anyone, they should make sure that it is some poor sod without connextions and power.
Continue to be uninformed about the Guyana Constitution and your life will be happier in France. I hope you get IT.
Let us see where this goes.I am holding my breath.Oh Guyana, beautiful Guyana,
When will you be returned to us.Please your holiness Mr President be true guyanese one more time.
Sheik
I gonna bring in the oxygen mask for you. And while I am at it. The heart machine as well. Actually, you might need the whole darn life support mechanism
………………..i am also holding my breath……………and i am looking towards change…….!!.”………….we need all the help we can get………………….in this one”………
“no charges be laid against Gilhuys due to deficient police statements”………………….imagine this is all our dear Director can come up with.
Had this been an “ordinary” citizen, “defending” himself / herself as Magistrate Gilhuys alleged to have been doing then I am sure the DPP’s Chambers would be singing another tune.
Given his career as a cop, and now magistrate, he should receive no mercy for any unlawful conduct
Hey I agree with you as i am an “ordinary citizen” that was defending myself with my licensed weapon after being assaulted in the Police Station with no charge to my assailant who later blocked my vehicle’s path with his vehicle and three others attempting to harm me physically i discharged “one” single round in the air and the same DPP revoked my licence.
When will there ever be justice when??
Hopefully the JSC will find something to charge him for
Dream, dream, all i have to do is dream.
The JSC would do well to remember the old adage “justice nust not only be done but must be seen to be done.” It would be rather unfortunate if Mr. Gilhuys is allowed to return to the bench whilst law abiding Mrs. Juliet Holder-Allen had to suffer years of a pending investigation and tarnish of her reputation by petty allegations.
Mr. Gilhuys, if he had some sense of decency would resign and not place the JSC in a position to determine his fate.
He was already a powerful man, returning him after an incident like this would empower him more as he would be the one who allegedly shot a police officer, didn’t surrender his weapon and was in possession of an unlicensed firearm and was given a break.
Heaven help us.
I trust that guys will deliever justice to the victim as is set forth in your mandate.
NO THANKS ULRIC
(I have to use upper case to emphasize my NO THANKS )
I do not need to carry around a copy of the antiquated Guyana Constitution,
the moreso as the current administration has no proper regard for it !
