Ovena Braithwaite is still hoping that Gafoors representatives would return to take measurements for a home as promised and the Ministry of Human Services made contact with her yesterday and promised to render some assistance.

The woman’s heart-rending story was carried in the Tuesday edition of Stabroek News. Last Saturday a storm blew off the roof of the one-bedroom shack that the pregnant mother of two had called home.

In June her husband had mysteriously disappeared and life for the family was in turmoil. The woman, who suffers from spells of dizziness due to problems with her eyes, had burned herself twice while cooking on a wood fire.

Yesterday, a donation of a kerosene stove and foodstuff was made to her by a Guyana Power and Light employee. Since her story was published outpourings of sympathy and assistance have come and she has expressed her gratitude.

    SN Staff :

The Gafoors’ are skilled and very experienced in buildings’ construction .

From the house picture, I saw, a skilled building person, will know the estimated measurements.

The promised building will be from H.E. Sattaur and Ameena Gafoor, NOT Gafsons’ employees, as SN previously reported.

Logistics with a contractor, may be continuing, and some TIME is needed.

SN Staff writer, can you PLEASE make a telephone call to Gafsons’ for the latest status ?.

THANKS to Human Services Ministry and ALL the most kind persons, and organizations, in Guyana, USA, Canada, et al.

    All praises to OUR LORD….Amen.

SN can you start a charity fund account so that we guyanese abroad can contribute in helping our poor guyanese living in poverty<

  4. Joe Coxall UNITED STATES says:

You know, in days of old, one of the skills that every able bodied young man accquired was the ability to build his own house. Today that is a lost community skill.

We need a resurgence of these skills in the community, since a simple thing as building a house seems to now be mired down in red tape.

If I had the time I would go down there and with two truckloads of mud, a few bags of cement and some old tires, I would build this lady a very large beautiful house in 8 to 10 days flat, that will last her 1000 years.

Necessity is the mother of all invention, and it is clear that Guyanese are not homeless or starving enough, so they still wait around for the government to take care of some of the simplest things that they as a community can make happen overnight. All that is needed is an ability to innovate with materials that are locally and plentifully available.

    Joe.

    SN Staff reporter:

I NOW know, that a house is being constructed at the Gafoors’ Industrial site, and will be transported in sections, and assembled, on the lady’s land, as soon as possible.

This is a gift from His Excellency Sattaur Gafoor, and Mrs. Ameena Gafoor from Gafsons’ Group of Companies.

SN Staff reporter: >>>>> I suggest, that you check with Gafsons, one telephone call, before speculating, with all due respect.

Professor you told me that you were going to make contact with the Gafoors ,Why now you are asking SN to call?I read and understood that you knew the Gafoors personally so why don’t you make the call and update us bloggers with the response. This might be a good way of doing something for Ovena, don’t you think?I could understand why Ovena is hoping that the Gafoors keep their promise because unlike you professor she does not know them personally.

      Brave.

My contact report, AS I PROMISED, is in the the TWO FIRST LINES, last night at 8:07 pm, in my comment, above….Yours was at 9:45 pm

REPEAT: A house is being constructed at the Gafoors’ Industrial site, and will be transported in sections, and assembled, on the lady’s land, as quickly as possible.

Globally, newspapers’ reporters, PREFER, to quote DIRECTLY from the sources, hence, my note to SN Staff, to telephone Gafsons, which is standard operating practice.

My help to Guyanese, is FOCUSED on EDUCATION, to help improve lives.
