AK-47, pistol with silencer, ammo found -Three women held
Three women have been arrested after three high-powered weapons and seven hundred and thirteen rounds of ammunition among other items were discovered by Joint Services ranks in a barrel on Wednesday evening at a Regent Street house.
According to a police press release sent last evening, the ranks conducted a search at Lot 120 Regent Street, Bourda at about 6.30 pm where they discovered an AK-47 rifle with the number filed off, a pistol with a silencer, a Mosberg shotgun, 713 rounds of ammunition of various calibre, 7 magazines for different firearms, a green camouflage water bottle and a green canvas pouch in a barrel.
It is expected that ballistics tests would be done on the firearms to determine if they were used in any crimes. The army is still missing several AK-47s from the 30 that were stolen from Camp Ayanganna in 2006. Sources say the pistol with the silencer is particularly disturbing and may point to the execution-style killings that have occurred routinely. Observers have said that with the killing by the police of Rondell `Fineman’ Rawlins and Jermaine `Skinny’ Charles there would be stepped up pressure for the police to crack down on other armed gangs engaged in extra-judicial acts.
There have been several cases of large amounts of arms and ammunition being found and questions have been raised about how they have flowed into the country. Porous borders are believed to be the key entry point but there are also questions about the level of security at ports.
The following is a list of the arms and ammunition that were discovered: one AK 47 rifle with the number filed out, one Mosberg 12 gauge shotgun, one Intratec 9mm. pistol with silencer, one AK 47 magazine, one Glock pistol magazine, two .380 magazines, two 9mm. magazines, one .40 magazine, 240 rounds .45 ammo, 146 rounds 9mm. ammo,114 rounds .40 ammo,107 rounds .32 ammo, 43 rounds 10mm. ammo, 11 shotgun cartridges (12 gauge), 24 rounds 7.62 x 39 ammo, one round 7.62 x 51 ammo, 3 rounds .380 ammo,19 rounds .22 ammo, 2 rounds .357 ammo, one round .38 special ammo and two rounds .38 ordinary ammo.
The police in their terse statement said that three women have since been arrested and are in their custody assisting with investigations.

This is great news! I hope the Joint Services also go into the country side and not just stay focused on the urban areas. Oh yes, there are lots of illegal guns in Guyana and they are in homes in anticipation of some social upheaval.
These three women should be grilled on audio video tapes, not tortured, to determine who they worked for and how they came by the stuff.
It’s about time we know the masterminds of dangerous crimes, just as we already know that the government is turning a blind eye to certain crimes being committed in government by corrupt officials and outside government by drug and fuel smugglers and money launderers.
Kudos to the GPF. Job well done. Now for some serious scientific interrogation of those in custody, then use info gained to get the rest of the lawbreakers.
By the way Mr. President – What about Henry’s confirmation in the position?? Time’s agoing.
De man doin de wuk an tekkin nuff toungelashin from me nuff odda bloggers hay, if not fuh nutten else e deserve ab A fuh tryin, suh reward de man by giein e de wuk.
ankoko, U JUST DONT GET IT DONT U,hg will never be cop, they want some who can report and take orders from the real cop, which is the homeaffairs min.IT’S a political gimmik to maintain control of the gpf.
Glad more arms and ammunitions are being found. Those who are responsible send them away for the rest of their lives. Congrats to the police
wish i were a lawyer in guyana i would be the bane in the js lives ofcourse they would put my picture on the wanted list and be hunted down as a criminal but it still beats me how can anyone be held responsible for something found in a public walk way let see what the court say to me this nothing but plain harassment
ehehehe im selling theCN tower yuh wanna buy? ehehehehe
fineman, wo rang wid u, i shudder to think u bn a lawyer, u would b beggn 4 pennies at d road corner., tell me, did u not read that the js ” acted on info” 4 goodness sake. dont go back to gt wid all d negativity.
Gd job comrade ggreene….you finally acting….. Guyana would be so lovely and peaceful….good job GPF…lots of people are planing their return ,since America in crisis now.
Good work JS. Stabroek news must publish the names of those arrested
FINE MAN, WHY THEY ARE NOT CHARGED AS YET THEY ARE ONLY QUESTIONING THEM. IT COULD OF BEEN THAT SOME OF THEM WERE AT THE WRONG PLACE
Yes we must give Jack its Jacket….But ppl there are lots more the JS know and must do….They must go after their own in their midst….Someone cleared this stuff at the custom office….Customs are part and parcel of security too…..The gun with the silencer is for (A man) not any of the three ladies…coz the ladies will yap yap ya to death…..nag nag ehehehehe
What customs? Several people up the Corentyne River and Crabwood Creek have private landings in their back yards. Who is checking them?
I don’t know who these women are but from the little information that was offered by this New Paper , apart from the lot number, I will have to say here that these women are Crime Fighters just like Roger Khan since they were not held in any of the Hot spots. If they were held in a Hot Spot then they would have been Freedom Fighters. For Christ sake Stabroek News, why can’t you just report the news in a journalistic fashion and stop regurgitating everything from the Police press briefing.
There were no names for the persons arrested with the quantity of weapons and ammunitions. No other information such as, whether they are business people, regular folks, are they Guyanese. If they run a business what type of business it is? Did Stabroek News speak with the neighbours of the persons who were arrested? If so, what were the reports from the neighbours interviewed? Dos any of them (the arrested parties) have a criminal background or even a shady one? Because I don’t understand the reason for carrying a story that we can possibly read on the GPF website.
Stabroek News, this morning I really don’t want to hear about your policies because anyone having this amount of weapons and ammunition is a serious threat to this country and we should waste no time in getting to the bottom of it. We can’t always leave everything up to the GPF. It’s our responsibility too to ensure the safety of this country and its people. S0 stop playing this game.
Now my friends, lot 120 Regent Street is either between Cummings and Light Street or between Light and Albert Street and that number would fall on the left hand side in the direction of the Botanical Gardens.
I don’t know if the word barrel is an indication where we should look but there are two shipping company between Regent and Light Street. Apart from that there is a heavy Brazilians presence between Light and Albert Street.
Coming SN it is your duty to provide the public with information. Don’t wait for the police to provide you with information before we will never get the truth.
Finally, I hope these women are not from Berbice because this seems to be a really bad week for those folks.
Any way Good Job Joint Service…….
PEPIE, GOOD POLICING YOU HAVE JUST WON YOUR SELF A JOB AT CNS FROM YOUR EXPLAINTION I KIND OF UNDERSTAND WHERE THIS ARREST TOOK PLACE GOOD WORK AGAIN
Irrespective of whether the arsenal is fineman / Phantom / Khan related this kind of news is good.
Lets hope that there are no hindrances to the prosecution of this case
A job well done JS, but remember this, not all criminal walk around with AK47 and silencer’s, some criminal call themselves business men, and walk around carrying briefcase and wearing nice suit.
