According to a police press release sent last evening, the ranks conducted a search at Lot 120 Regent Street, Bourda at about 6.30 pm where they discovered an AK-47 rifle with the number filed off, a pistol with a silencer, a Mosberg shotgun, 713 rounds of ammunition of various calibre, 7 magazines for different firearms, a green camouflage water bottle and a green canvas pouch in a barrel.

It is expected that ballistics tests would be done on the firearms to determine if they were used in any crimes. The army is still missing several AK-47s from the 30 that were stolen from Camp Ayanganna in 2006. Sources say the pistol with the silencer is particularly disturbing and may point to the execution-style killings that have occurred routinely. Observers have said that with the killing by the police of Rondell `Fineman’ Rawlins and Jermaine `Skinny’ Charles there would be stepped up pressure for the police to crack down on other armed gangs engaged in extra-judicial acts.

There have been several cases of large amounts of arms and ammunition being found and questions have been raised about how they have flowed into the country. Porous borders are believed to be the key entry point but there are also questions about the level of security at ports.
The following is a list of the arms and ammunition that were discovered: one AK 47 rifle with the number filed out, one Mosberg 12 gauge shotgun, one Intratec 9mm. pistol with silencer, one AK 47 magazine, one Glock pistol magazine, two .380 magazines, two 9mm. magazines, one .40 magazine, 240 rounds .45 ammo, 146 rounds 9mm. ammo,114 rounds .40 ammo,107 rounds .32 ammo, 43 rounds 10mm. ammo, 11 shotgun cartridges (12 gauge), 24 rounds 7.62 x 39 ammo, one round 7.62 x 51 ammo, 3 rounds .380 ammo,19 rounds .22 ammo, 2 rounds .357 ammo, one round .38 special ammo and two rounds .38 ordinary ammo.

The police in their terse statement said that three women have since been arrested and are in their custody assisting with investigations.

Ajob well done, it is good to seethe force is being proactive in the eradication of crime. I wish to be posative here, but we all know that there is a lot of work left to be done, keep up the fight. In addition to the police work i think that the political parties (and notice i did not say the govt. only) should send a strong message much the same a Antigua recently, 15yrs for the posession of an illegal firearm 25 to life for armed robbery with the use of a gun. that i can assure you would make people think twice about acquiring a fire arm illegally.

Where all these people are coming with this idea that the police have not been doing a good job, the police have been doing a good job until the force have been politically influenced by the JADGEO ADMINISTRATION.

For the longest while i have been reading that there is no commissioner of police but an action one. There is no decision being made by him but by the jadgeo administartion.

where are all the good old cops that i know about.when Leon Fraser was alive nothing like this was happenig. (May his soul rest in peace) all those that work under him was either fired or forced to quit the force because of th jadgeo adminsitration, and i must say thati am convinced that fraser killing was politacally motivated.

Leon fraser at times use to use his own private vehicle and go and hunt these criminals down, we had a lot of mothers crying out that their sons are being killed wrngfully or their sons are being brutalise, but never once did he hear about innocent citizen being kill in bulk by crininals who take over the country. because he and those that work under him never give them a chance to breathe.

The GDF also is being ruled by the JADGEO ADMINISTRATION too, we can see this clearly there are favorate being picked to be top men at the gdf instead of the regular regulation as how it should be run.
My point is that the force could better and they can do a better job now if it isdoing the job under its own entity and not under the orders of the jadgeo administration.

Great detective work by the Guyana Police Force…… I am pleased to see further actions are being taken to rid the streets of these weapons. The citizens of Guyana do not need to have another vicious gang emerge and continue the killing spree. I was alarmed to see the large number of ammunitions found at the scene, thanks goodness they will not have an oppourtunity to use them.

    Excellent work GPF! 3 cheers………. :)

I am so happy that the Joint Services are doing a very good job, it makes me feel proud that they are finally getting control of the unlawful elements. The people of
“GUYANA” must be proud of them. Also they must try very hard to get rid of the corrupt elements within the ranks, even it is their friend or relatives. Time to wake up Guyana, a new beginning is here. Thank You.
