Digicel has donated $200,000 in trophies to the Mabaruma Heritage Committee as a way of complementing Amerindian Heritage Month activities.

According to a Digicel press release on Thursday, the trophies will be presented to both male and female winners competing in the numerous activities prepared for the two-day cultural celebrations.
The winners of the Miss Mabaruma Amerindian Heritage pageant will also receive trophies, compliments of Digicel.

Digicel Sponsorship Executive, Shirwin Campbell, stated that the company is happy to be involved in the Mabaruma celebrations and  the donation is just another way of them supporting the preservation of “Guyana’s culture and we will continue to do so.”

Meanwhile, Mabaruma Heritage Committee Secretary, Leandra Singh, expressed the heritage group’s delight at Digicel’s contribution.  “It is great when corporate Guyana supports activities such as these,” and she also urged all Guyanese to join in the celebrations as they promote their culture.
The release noted also that Digicel has supported a number of events such as Amerindian Heritage Sports Day, Lethem Sports and  the company joined the residents of Santa Rosa last Saturday to celebrate Amerindian Heritage Month and to officially launch Digicel’s service in that area.
