The woman and the girls had hired a taxi from the Stabroek Market to transport them to a wedding reception at the army base. Tameica Damon related that her grandmother was joking about the good time they would have celebrating there.

“We were driving along a lil fast,” Damon said in a quivering voice, “…next thing I know another car come speeding towards us from the opposite direction and de driver panic.” Damon explained that the taxi driver then tried to avoid a head-on collision, swerved and smashed into a lamp-post at the side of the road.

The teenager was unable to give any more details; however, she repeatedly said that the driver had removed her grandmother from the car and left her lying on the grass. “He put she deh and all he do was say, ‘Lady don’t dead on me hay,’” Damon recounted.

When Stabroek News arrived at the Georgetown Public Hospital around 10.20pm Damon, her cousin OlisiaWharton who was also in the car and other relatives were seen exiting the Emergency Room sobbing and holding on to each other.

Wharton told this newspaper that a stranger had taken them to the hospital at approximately 8.50pm. “We never expect this… she was still alive… I don’t know how…” she whispered.

Hmmm. This is not the time to share blame here buy i must acknowledge that Damon said “We were driving along a lil fast,” Now its indeed sad to learn this has been the turning point in fatal comotion…only if Damon had stuck it out and told the driver he can easy on the gas, they had all night to meet their destination. Now for us that remain, we must learn from this err in judgement.
    Condolences!!!

    Condolences to the entire family.

Don’t be in a hurry to blame the Govt./Police for not doing enough to curb this kind of lawlessness, as everyone knows that these idiots only slow down when the police is around.

Lets challenge the Gove. to introduce legislation that will double or triple the jail time for anyone found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.

My condolences to the family. Coming from the Benjamins formally lot #28 Phoenix Park. This woman and my mom were friends. Every time I go to Guyana the one and only thing I am afraid of, are those CRAZY DRIVERS. They need to slow down, speed kills people. And those cars needs air bags too, plus people need to wear there seat belts, it just might help save some lives.

  7. mike hill UNITED STATES says:

very sad, if only they would obey the speed limit, everyone seems to be in a hurry.
Its not going to stop anyway. just imagine if you are going 35 to 40 mph, even if you crash most likely no one will die, just minor injuries, Guyana does not have roads for high speeds, yet these idiots and i do mean idiots who think they are expert drivers would not slow down.

  8. Ankoko UNITED STATES says:

My heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased.
We need more traffic education and stricter laws which must be enforced! Three serious convictions and the licence must go bye bye!
Make it harder for people to get drivers’ licences and easier for them to lose it!
Then jail them for long periods when they drive without licences.

My condolences goes out to the family of the late Joy Daniels of Pheonix Park. The drivers have to stop speeding on the road . They always have to remember that the lives of innocent people are at a risk when they behave in this foolish manner. This makes me want to scream.
