A handyman who was allegedly found with a quantity of cannabis in his possession was placed on $25,000 bail yesterday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Gregory Howes, 38, of 233 East Ruimveldt, pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
It is alleged that on September 26 in Georgetown, Howes had in his possession eight grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
However, Howes stated that on the day in question, he was in a minibus travelling to Stabroek Market when police officers stopped the bus and “tell me that I charge for possession of weed.”
He went on to say that he had been falsely accused for other offences and locked up several times for the year by the same police officers.
Magistrate Robertson then granted Howes bail in the sum of $25,000 and transferred his case to Court Five for October 20.

Another Saint, innocently locked up,also said that he has been locked up several times.
Should not be granted bail, one who helps to to destroy our YOUNG MEN / WOMEN.
8,, eight grammes is just a bit over 1/3 of an ounce of cocaine ,, not even BOB Marley would smoke a ” spliff ” made of 1/ 3 of an ounce of “trees ” this looks like harassment they need (the police ) to go after the rotten apples found in th barrel with them !
man 8 grams is not enough to roll ah spliff?….man u crazy….8 grams would be 8 phat blunts bro. and if u conserve 16…so dont say is police horassment because u favor de herb!…is police horassment because they just want lock up this man….” he did have the herb on him….and it was enough to smoke a few and sell a few….wont make $1000 guyana….but can still make a sale”!
If Hows story is right and he can prove what he said about the same police arresting him times over then he has a strong case against this police officer.
