An 82-year-old man was hospitalised last evening after being beaten by two men during a robbery at his Stone Avenue, Section K Campbellville home.
Cecil Murray and his two nieces were attacked by two men shortly after 6 pm last evening. The men escaped with a quantity of jewellery, cash and some other items which were the property of the two nieces.
According to one of the nieces, she and a cousin were in the living room using the computer, when their uncle entered the house without securing the door. The woman said that this was a normal practice. She said that it was while her uncle entered his bedroom in order to write her a cheque, that two men entered the house. She said the men held them up with a knife and then proceeded to relieve them of their valuables. The woman said that men relieved her of two diamond rings, her watch and chain along with a cell phone and a small amount of cash. The wallet of the second woman in the house was also taken.
She explained that during the confrontation, her uncle came out and the two men demanded money from him. When Murray informed the men that he did not have any, one of the men began to beat him with a piece of wood, while the other was urging his accomplice to kill Murray. According to the niece, even when Murray was being attacked he was struggling with the bandit who was hitting him and this resulted in the bandit losing some of his clothes. This included a shirt and a baseball cap which were left at the scene of the crime.
The niece said that during all this, there appeared to be a third man who was keeping watch from the door. Murray was left with a badly bloodied and bruised face and was subsequently taken to the hospital.
After the attack, the men made their getaway on foot. An alarm was raised and a neighbour pursued the men who ran west towards Sheriff Street. The men reportedly into the Botanical Gardens. Police were in the gardens last night searching for the men.
Meanwhile, one of the nieces told this newspaper that some neighbours said that they observed some suspicious looking men liming around the area during the day.
The woman said that she believed that the men probably thought the man was alone. She told this newspaper that Murray had lived alone for sometime but one of his nieces recently decided to move back home with him.

Lock them up and break the key in the lock
They have to be found first, which hardly happens. I hope they are found and send them to jail for the rest of their lives. These are beasts, beating an old man is beyond human, so I conclude they are beasts.
This is one of the reasons absolutely no mercy should be shown to these criminals. after working hard all your life they come demanding what is yours and whether you give or not they beat you. Imagine an eighty two (82) year old man being beaten and urged to be killed by these savages.
I say no mercy for the merciless. I hope they are caught and brought to justice.
Hope the GHRA would voice their opinion on this.
I hope they are caught & made to feel the full wrath of the law. It’s hard eneoguh to survive as a lawbiding citizen, working hard to make ends meet. When these criminals who work nowhere just sit & wait to deprive hard honest workers of the fruits of their labour. No wonder the other one was beaten “bad bad” in some cases they are beaten to death. Some of them actually deserve to die especially when they are urging their cohorts to beat people to death to deprive them of their belongings.
The robberies continue.
Can a lodge brother confirm whether this person is Brother Cecil Murray.
Mr. Evan Thomas,
yes this is Br. C. N Murry. He is fine except for a cut over the right forehead and a few bumps.
Those criminals looks like starters from their weapon a knife, so should be given a sentence (when caught) to regret I propose 20 years and the CAT 9.
A message to the justice system::::Once these criminals are caught….Can you give each of them a prison sentence in terms of age of Mr. Cecil Murray…ow judge..please do me this one favor for once…Mr.Murray is 82 years young….ow judge im not asking for much for these criminal…
Don’t blogg to the justice system, write the President concerning what’s going on in Guyana, ask him to implement a system to hault the unfairness to decent citizens.
It is very sad to know that one is not safe in one’s home anymore.
Murray is a health fanatic and no wonder that he put up a struggle;
Maybe he should not have, but knowing him, he would dare anyone
to take him out.
That he tore off some of the bandits clothes does tell you how strong
he is at 82;
Sorry that he suffered wounds.
Now he has to curtail his daily walks, but watch out, Murray will not take kindly
to the bandits when they are caught !
These hooligan should be hunted down and taken off the street, it’s sad to see an elder treated like this, i wish him a speedy recovery.
