While responding to a call of nature, Nigel Monroe was chopped once in the forehead on Wednesday night just after 9 in the backyard of his Sophia home by a man armed with a cutlass.
Monroe, 37, of Eleventh Street, B Field, Sophia was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital just after 10 pm with a deep chop wound to his forehead.
Speaking from his hospital bed at the Male Open Ward, Nigel recalled that he was on his way to the washroom situated at the back of his yard when he noticed someone standing between his clothing on the laundry line. He said that the man stepped out from behind the clothes with a cutlass in his hand.
Monroe stated that he then jumped backwards in shock but fell over the post that was used to hold up the line. As he struggled to get up the man chopped him once on the forehead. He further stated that the man attempted to chop him again but his reputed wife, Karen Williams came to his rescue and pushed the man out of the way before he could have landed the second chop. The man then immediately fled the scene on foot. “I neva even went in an argument with de man, he just look at me and start chop,” said Monroe.
A report was made to the police station about the incident but up to press time Monroe’s assailant had not been apprehended.

Hope the gentleman has a speedy and full recovery. This is what seems to be daily life in Guyana today. Murders, attempted murders, rapes etc. Sometimes the story is a bit different from what we see in the media. Nonetheless – Where are we going as a nation? Is there a solution to these growing problems? How much of the blame is on the polytrickans? What about us as a people – are we doing anything to enhance our safety?
I’d say this much – As a deterrent the Law enforcement and the Judicial system need to send a message that this would not be tolerated by arresting, prosecuting and severely punishing the perpetrators of violence and mayhem upon the citizenry. The prison system should be geared towards inflicting punishment and rehabilitation in a meaningful manner.
As a people we need to be more vigilant and first cooperate with the police to catch and prosecute the lawbreakers. If the police are found to be lacking then it becomes the responsibility of the Gov’t to ensure that they protect the citizenry in the way they are entitled to.
Thank God this man is alive. This is our Beautiful Guyana. How disgusting. Mr. I wish u a speedy recovery.
why would the man chop him if the two of had no arguement or problems. then i think that the reputed wife should probably know why the man chopped her man. why did he not chop her when she came to her reputed husband rescue and pushed him away. this does not seem to me as a robbery gone wrong.
berry, that is the question I would ask the woman, what was this man doing hiding in the backyard?and why did’nt he do her anything when she pushed him?It does’nt look right.
berry i agree with 100%.
i agree with you berry because if she push the man she should get the chop but u see people never say the truth.
You owe your life to your wife!! or probably you would of been chopped more or even be killed.
The butcher will be caught soon.
people go to your bible and see what it said,”increasing of lawlessness”.matthew24:12;from all over the world come reports of increasing of lawlessness and crime.crimes of violence, such as murder, rape and robberies, are now running wild,on the average about every second.in many places no one feels safe on the streets, even during the daytime.at night people stay in their homes behind locked and barricaded doors, afraid to go outside…..”men become faint out of fear”._luke 21:26,we are living in the”last days”,we have to pray!!….. to the young man and other i will keep you in my prayers.
ALL THESE LAWLESSNESS WERE HAPPENING SINCE THE DAYS OF ABRAHAM …..READ THE OLD TESTAMENT AND YOU WILL LEARN MORE HOW GOD’S CHILDREN WERE REBELLIOUS AND LIVING A LIFE OF LAWLESSNESS…..
TO the above comments-in my book, the lord says ……do not take a life as you did not give it…Respect your fellow man .In the days of abraham, there were a lot of sacrifices. In one instance Abraham[being a prophet of God himself] was going to sacrifice his only son in the name of God.And that was a testing of faith. Maybe the wife could shed some more light on this incident.Or S.N. is not telling us the whole story, eitherway, i am now having second thoughts of returning to beautiful GUYANA.
Guyana is rough and the people living there are behaving as if they have loss their minds, I will keep praying that one day soon people would start to love and care for one another. and curb this violence.
I would like to extend my gratitude to Caribbean International Shipping Services for sending one of the two boxes that myself and daughter send for Ovena. They were willing to allow one of the box to go to Guyana for free. These Guyanese not only want to make money but their are eager to help in times of need.Once again thanks Caribbean International Shipping Services for serving us in Georgia and for your contribution to this cause.
The same questions i have in my head, why would someone attack someone if they have no motive, what is the motive hear????
