A handyman who allegedly abducted his ex-girlfriend and robbed a man of a firearm, ammunition and a quantity of cash was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Twenty-two-year-old Devon Williams of 169 James Street, Albouystown, pleaded not guilty to the charge of abducting Yolanda Taylor when it was read to him by Magistrate Melissa Robertson. However he wasn’t required to plead to the indictable charge of robbery under arms when it was read to him by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.

It is alleged that on December 19  last year, Williams while armed with a gun robbed Orson Thompson of one .32 pistol and two .32 firearm magazines, twenty-six .32 rounds of live ammunition and a quantity of cash, totalling $994,000 in value.

It is also alleged that on October 3 this year, Williams abducted his ex-girlfriend Yolanda Taylor.

Prosecutor Denise Griffith objected to Williams’ bail application in the abduction matter on the grounds that the accused is known to Taylor since they had previously shared a relationship and  if he was granted bail he may interfere with her and may not return  to court.

Meanwhile, Prosecutor Desire Fowler objected to Williams’ bail application in the robbery under arms case on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. The prosecutor said also that  Williams has a similar matter engaging the attention of the court. She stated further that if he was granted bail he may not return to court.

Both magistrates ordered that Williams be remanded to prison. However he was ordered by Magistrate Robertson to appear in Court Five on October 24 for the abduction case, while Magistrate Octive-Hamilton ordered that he appear in Court on November 10 for the armed robbery case.
