The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) is advising consumers to fill-up as many receptacles as possible to minimize any inconvenience from GWI’s operations being severely affected by prolonged power outages.
In a press release GWI said GPL’s scheduled maintenance of the Demerara Inter-connected System is affecting its ability to provide a continuous supply of water, particularly in Regions Five and Six. The company said it is concerned about the situation as its operations depend heavily on GPL for a “continuous supply of specifically phased and balanced generation of electricity to power our motors.”
GWI said Better Hope, Mon Repos, Pouderoyen and Covent Garden residents will not be seriously affected because it has self-generation facilities at those locations and at the Shelter Belt. The company is also urging administrators of major institutions such as hospitals, schools and other public institutions to ensure all taps are turned off during power outages to prevent wastage when power is restored.

This is what guyana come to, i remember in the 80’s we in linden never had this problem, but now it’s rampant water shortage, although linden has a water treatment plant.
G.W.i, or [GUYWA] as it was formerly called had been told before the handing over ceremony of these water wells situated at -BUXTON,MONREPOS,BETTER HOPE, ECCLES,COVENT GARDEN, GROVE& CRAIG on the East Bank ,should not be effected by electricty. THE reason being -at all these well sites there is a propane powered generator with a trip switch which activates the generator into operation should there be a power failure. These deep water wells was installed by Amelco Western Inc.in 1968-1970, with completion in 1971 . These wells were dug at a dept of 2200ft. About 2 miles from each of these wells, an elevated storaged tank was manufactured and erected by CHICHAGO BRIDGE of ATALANTA. Actually both companys were based in BALTIMORE.MD. My point is ,blackout or not it should not disupt the supply of pure water.EX employee.i say no more.
