Cecil Semple’s house robbed after leaving for hospital
Material things can be acquired again but his son is gone forever are the sentiments of Cecil Semple whose house was robbed when he left for the hospital after learning of his son’s fatal accident on Friday.
Cecil Semple lost his second child, Guyana Defence Force captain Ancel Semple in what appeared to be a hit and run accident shortly before 10 pm on Friday. The man had just ridden off from home on his CBR motorcycle when tragedy struck. No one seems to know the exact circumstances of the accident, but two motor cars said to be implicated are impounded at the Brickdam Police Station as investigations continue.
Cecil Semple said that the most likely explanation so far is that the two cars may have been travelling in opposite directions on Aubrey Barker Road; one must have clipped the soldier causing him to lose control of the bike, crashing headlong into the other.
The elder Semple who is an ex-police Assistant Superintendent told Stabroek News yesterday that his son had called earlier in the afternoon to tell him he would visit and could have well been on his way to his father’s house when he died.
Upon hearing the news of the accident via a phone call, the father made his way to the hospital, leaving his home unprotected and open to an unscrupulous thief, only awaiting an opportunity to pounce. When Cecil Semple returned home he found that his computer’s CPU, 2 digital cameras, a brand new chain saw and a 50-piece power drill that was never used were all gone.
He told Stabroek News that he had only spent 45 minutes at the hospital and returned home to make phone calls to relatives and friends. It was when he was attempting to view the contents on a disc to give this newspaper a photo of the dead man he realized that the CPU was missing. The other items were discovered missing later in the night. The thief did not take the 17-inch monitor since he may not have had the time, the man opined.
Cecil Semple, who took up professional photography after his career in the police force, said that his studio was robbed prior to Friday night. He says he believes he knows who is responsible for the acts but is not getting a proper response from the police.
Meanwhile when questioned on the circumstances of his son’s death and whether he believed it was an accident given that it occurred some three houses from where he lived and Semple could not be going at top speed when the accident occurred, Cecil Semple said that he wishes to refrain from thinking that way unless police investigations prove otherwise.
“What I do know is that my son was a reasonably rounded soldier and was moving up the ranks very fast,” he stated. “He was a captain at age 31 and would have been up for major soon,” he added.
The man said that he did not know of his son having any enemies, and even though anything is possible he wants to “distance myself from that kind of thinking.”
Ancel Semple entered the army in 1998 and was sent to Sandhurst (British Army Officer training centre) where he spent one year. Upon returning to Guyana he was stationed at Camp Ayanganna. He was involved in the training aspect of army operations, his father related to Stabroek News. He was later transferred to Camp Stephenson at Timehri where he was still stationed at the time of his death. Cecil Semple explained however that his son would be around the country on training programmes which is what he was doing at Tacama in the last two weeks; he had returned to Georgetown earlier on the day of his accident.
Ancel was involved in a pre-mash accident on the Linden Highway several years ago where four persons had died.
A post-mortem examination is expected on Wednesday.

THIS MAN IS SANDHURST TRAINED AND I DEMAND A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION!!! YOU CAN JUST KILL PEOPLE OF HIS CALIBRE JUST LIKE THAT!!!
My homeboy was just leaving the PHG after seeing his mom alive for the last time, she had cancer. Ansel was in the hospital too after his Linden accident, in bandages & slings he had my homeboy & those of us around him cracking up with laughter & he was supposed to be in pain. That’s the kind of individual he was, nevver let a moment go by without trying to bring smiles or laughter to someone’s life.
I know that judgement day will reward the good as well as the evil doers it’s so sad that we do not control that day & to some of us it really takes too long for some who deserve it. May the Most High give him his rightful place among the stars & I know he will not be forgotten, he’s achieved alot & will serve as an example to many.
Who are you to demand a thorough investigation? The police knows their work and will do it.
no sanhurst, nobody will be caught and the police should just sweep this one under the rug, sounds familier??? your own words came back to bite you in the………….
condolences to Mrs. Semple and family
we feel your pain in The Bahamas
we love you, be strong in the Lord
lewis and the beacon family
I Know this fellow we were on the same Standard Officer Course 28 he was shipped off very earley to sandhurst I never really got to know him since I drop out of that course. He was a very nice fellow I know his mother also. My condolence to his family
“Cecil Semple said that the most likely explanation so far is that the two cars may have been travelling in opposite directions on Aubrey Barker Road; one must have clipped the soldier causing him to lose control of the bike, crashing headlong into the other.”
Thats impossible!!! if Master Semple was travelling west along Aubrey Barker Road then the vehicle travelline west had to take the inside lane to clip him on the back sending him twartling towards the vehicle heading east. A car cannot our run a CBR especially these cars we have here in Guyana. Therefore the car that hit him first was probably in a hurry or had “other ” things on his mind…..I will now let the police figure this one out cause i just can’t understand it.
wow, could this be a murder then?????????????
may his soul rest in peace, and may God have mercy on the rest of us living souls………………………………….
Oh yes please do …let the popo do them job….because it sounds like you want to complicate matters..and play Perry Mason..
sandhurst dont be RIDICULOUS with your posthumous stupid refrences,,,,,,,,,,,

See…the car was indeed trying to take over from inside…..i send these comments before reading the entire atricle and had already found many faults, i hope the GPF and duh army can do the same.
Some good observations my brother. However I don’t believe it was just an “accident” It’s a bit too fishy & knowing how people of good sound character are a “threat” t certain ‘powerhouses’ in GT they may have wanted him off the scene. Besides Ansel was growing faster than a mushroom in the GDF, HE HAD A FUNCTIONAL BRAIN, something lacking in alot of individuals in uniform in our beloved native land.
how low can one gets, waiting and preying on someone at their weakest moment of life. it just reminds me of this land.
in my opinion guyanese have adopted this trait so easily and cares not for their fellow man, its all about the dollar and not life as we can see it on the roads every day, death and destruction, speeding for the dollar.
A very very strange situation,I hope it’s just an accident and nothing else, My condolences to the family once more and may this exceptional young man rest in peace!

…..well, well, well semple i am hurt about this one…….i new this had to be you….hold strong my brother…….i infom lenox, ed, and the rest of the old staff from the lab…….i remember this kid and his sister…..semple was very stern with him……i hope palutte will stand in for all of us who work together in the forensic lab…….hold strong sgt..
I understand Mr. Semple oh so well. As an old Policeman when Police were respected he knew what it was like then & has witnessed the evolution to what it is now. WE ALL KNOW that this was no simple accident. Ancel was in the army intelligence unit & may have been on to something or someone.
Now for the opportunistic criminal who robbed his grieving father, I do hope & pray Mr. Semple has a licenced firearm & knows how to use it . . . . I say no more!!!
I see the criminals them na watch no face, them just a steal from anyone, they don’t care if you have death in your family they just steal, i hope they get caught.
i hope so too. this is really sad.
I just want to say matters not how we view Ancel death he is not going to come back in the flesh , no one will go before their time. We are hurt when ever we have to deal with death you know why we lost all contact with out love ones, if only we knew where they were going and had a contact number for them it would not be so hard to deal with it. It was his time this time not the last time so let’s all find peace and keep the good memories he has left behind alive in our soul. He was a great person and will continue to be, where ever he has gone too.
Let us Love and live each day as if it is our last don’t waite for someone to die to give your best to them.
Another promising life wasted in Guyana where there are no enforcement of traffic laws and drivers take their life into their own hands .. tragic indeed.
Condolences to members of his grieving family.
