The accident occurred around 5:40 p.m.

This newspaper was told that the Route #44 minibus BJJ 6700 was travelling south along Camp Street, when he stopped just before Quamina Street to pick up passengers. After picking up the passengers, he was crossing Quamina Street when he was hit by the CRV four-wheel drive which was proceeding west along Quamina Street at the time. The impact from the collision caused the minibus to turn over on its side.

The accident left some of the passengers in the minibus – which included mostly school children – nursing minor cuts and lacerations about their bodies. The injured persons were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they were treated and sent away. However, there was much anxiety at the hospital as many parents and relatives gathered to find out about the fate of their children.

Meanwhile, Zerack Hamid, the driver of the CRV with licence plate PJJ 4700, said that his brakes failed him. He said that he saw the minibus stop and he decided to cross the street. He, however, said when he saw the possibility of a collision, he attempted to apply his brakes but they were not working.

On the other hand, the driver of the minibus Ganishram Sewnarine said that the man had to be speeding considering the fact that the impact caused the bus to overturn.

What if it was a child crossing the road…then, Zerack Hamid would have killed him/her because his out dated brakes wasn’t working. These careless drivers we have in this country are mad people, if you have a car you should treat it like your child, care for it, treat it properly and do many fitness tests to make sure everything is fine and in return it will take you there safely and on time.

Everyone is not O.K the newscast revealed a woman broke several parts of her body and had to be taken to the hospital. She was crying out for pain as her right foot could have be seen literally hanging and bleeding. It was a touching scene and i alomst cried, what if it were someone close to meor you, or anyone else? The driver of the bus “disappeared” after the accident but the police found his driver’s licence in the glove compartment.

So the “two men” are eager to settle “their part” out of court while the children & their parents suffer the trauma!!! Is that permitted by whatever law remains in our native land??? I have an idea of how the minibuses that carry schoolchildren function. The more the merrier so overweight it’s easy to topple as children are actually packed in up to the roof. I also believe that’s why the “out of court” agreement is on the table, the CRV driver recognises it as his fault & the minibus driver doesn’t want the courts to know how many children were in the bus. I believe it should be dealt with in our institution of law responsible for such issues & both drivers be charged, have their licences revoked & made to do hours of community service.

  4. Fulano de Tal u hit d nail on de head. Those children like to pack up like sardines in these mini bus. I wonder if the music still bang in their ears. And that is so true the two drivers would’n want to go near the court with this story.

The children have to be compensated for their medicine/post-truama, if any, and then, if the owners want to settle the matter out of court, they should be allowed.

its an accident and there were injured children, this must be handle in the courts.
let the cops examine the brakes to ascertain if its a lie. then charged him with speeding, dangerous driving, endangering the welfare of the kids, license suspension.
Sn please follow up with this case.

  9. Ankoko UNITED STATES says:

Brake failure??. Naah he was speeding and not paying attention. Charge both of them for dangerous driving. One was speeding and the other one moved off without verifying that it was safe to do so.
Out of Court Settlement? The lawmakers better make it illegal to do that or else there are going to be some settlements that end in death!
