I wish I had time to go into this in detail. Issues of sexuality/promiscuity have thier etiology in how girls feel about their fathers. In many cases, behaviors are symptomatic of unresolve issues. We need to educate young women to be more assertive and once more, I call on Minister Manickchand to take the lead in this area. I must also add that I am supporting you, Minister Manickchand, to be the next President believe that you can make a difference. I will also leave my job here and come home and campaign for you.

our ppl needs to be more educated social services needs to be implemeted throughout Guyana..whenever the ministers come to NY and move around in their little circles laughing and hanging out all over.Its a shame to know the represent guyana or their citizen.I can imagine what they do in Guyana.

Guyanese women need to stand up and take back that power we give to men every day. Start teaching our sons to be men not bastards. Stop letting our daughters see our husbands treat us like garbage. Stop coming to our husbands every command. Im not saying that a husband shouldent get the respect he deserves. So should the woman.

I was in Guyana in 2006 and I was disgusted with what I saw. Grown men trying to have sex with under aged girls and what I was told made me more disgusted. ” this is not America, that kind of thing is normal here”. That’s what I was told by someone very close to me and also not to interfair. These men are praying on our young daughters, looking at them like lambs to the slaughter and with no remorse. We as women need to very much inpower our selves as mothers and inpower our daughters and teach our sons to be men. Guyana need to put an age limit on sexual activities the same way they do Here.

Justice does not appear to be on the side of the innocent…

Why did they release him the first time.. when they could have checked for the scrapes on his neck (before they healed)?

And who is Ramdass? The article doesn’t mention who this is.. is that the landlord or something?

Also, I would like to add that while rape can and does happen to persons in any class. In no way does personal circumstance/class/education level make violence okay. It is true that those who are poorer and less educated often are more likely to be victimized, often because they are in less of a position to defend themselves and are forced to take greater risks because they have to. (They may need to feed their family and to do that may need work a job that puts one out late at night or live in a dangerous neighborhood because they don’t have other options). Also, it’s pathetic, but sometimes having money often buys justice. I don’t really know if that was at all a factor in this horrible crime.

May justice be served and this man be kept away from endangering other girls.

My condolences to Cindy’s family and friends. Rest In Peace.

Just a guess, but maybe if one of your parents were to die, you might drop out to help with the family.

This is sad. And terrible. No one deserves to be raped. And rape can happen to anyone.

She was obviously greatly traumatized. I wish she had been able to run to her cousin’s house to hide and get help, instead of drinking poison. But she was obviously in deep pain and feeling great fear. People do recover from rape, but it is a long and difficult process, which requires support. Support she may not have had access too. Even if she ran away that day, she may have felt unsafe wherever and for the rest of her life. I can’t really know how she felt that day, but it would seem she felt sure she would end up dead anyway. How awful, that she felt her best alternative was to take her own life.

This is not unusual for Kids of Indian descent or black children on the Corentyne to become bread winners or stay home kids after the deaths of either parents. It was hard then and it is harder now nothing has changed. Long ago kids used to be protected by neighbours and school teachers and even law enforcement officers now you cant trust anyone. Guyana has become so lawless that even death has no impact on anyone. Crime of all sorts is like a walk in the park, all because they can get away with it. My sincere condolences to that family. I may even know that family because I have lived in that area a long time ago. In our eyes he has gotten away but he has another judge to go before and his punishment will be like no other.

cliff is so right i went to Annandale Secondary school and i hade a lot of indian friends, and i know for a face that this is one of the reasons for young girls taking their own lives.
