Private  Marvin Slowe  of the Infor-mation Technology Department, the citation awardee,  was in the vicinity of the accident last Friday on Aubrey Barker Street, South Ruimveldt  when Captain Semple lost control of his motorcycle and crashed head on into the path of an oncoming vehicle after being clipped from behind by a yet unidentified vehicle, a GDF release said.

Slowe was among several persons who sought to render assistance to Semple. The Private recovered and secured the  M35 Browning pistol which had pitched a short distance from Semple’s body and immediately returned it to Base Camp Ayanganna and promptly handed it over to the relevant authority.

The Private did what he was supposed to do. Was he expected to do other wise, mayby sell it to the bandits. He did the honorable thing, but giving him a citation, sends the wrong message. If he was a civilian, ok. His Code of Conduct compelled him to do what he did. Military is military. My sympathy to the Semples.

As an ex Soldier I fully agree wit you FM, and would have felt insulted if my superiors had march me in for a Citation. The covert message here is that most soldiers , if not all, are seen as being dishonest and untrustworthty in the eyes of their superiors.

Hmmm. Why was’nt mention made of this all the time. Why only now this piece of information is revealed if the gun was handed over to Base Camp Ayanganna immediately and promptly. Something still aint sound right here. Investigation needed. Young life snuffed out like that, someone is responsible people.
