May their souls rest in peace. I attended Hector’s funeral in NY two weeks ago and saw Sheila and Sheery after 20 years and then to hear this was devastating. Sherry is definitely a strong woman. I CANNOT imagine how strong she was to survive those waters. Just WOW! Go Sherry! Love to all families of the deceases from all the Guyanese families in New York. Our hearts and prayers are with you.

My name is Luke Seepaul I live in Atlanta Georgia United States. we were on vacation in florida. it was my uncle’s 50th birthday party and we was all having fun. I Felt my phone rang i saw it was my cousin, when i awnsered his wife was crying she said that my aunt ,indera Motiram was dead i tought that she was joking. when my cousin , Ramchand Motiram got on the phone he asked for my mother and i handed the phone to her. she went outside to get away from the music, when i saw her come back inside and called my dad i knew something was wrong. rember we was on vacation when i went outside i saw my mother weeping screaming that my aunt was dead. right there and then i knew that my cousin was not joking. i could never believe that my aunt was dead She was alwayse a strong person and to tell me that she died i did not believe until the next day when they found her body. my mom is currently in guyana trying to help out with the funeral.

It’s very sad to see that this tragedy happened. Our sympathies to the families. It should be noted, however, that the “backtrack” crossing, unregularized, has always been unsafe, and illegal. It’s high time this government takes full responsibility for turning a blind eye to the corruption and does it’s job. Otherwise it is inevitable that this will be repeated…

in guyana it very hard on the road to get a bus so when one stop you have to go u have no choice its like you begging so how you could tell the driver to slow down u dont want them to put u out of the bus.

wE R TALKING ABOUT ADULTS AND NO MATTER WHT WE GUYANESE DONT LEARN. WHEN THE MINI BUSES GET INTO ACCIDENT DO THE PEOPLE STOP DRIVING IN THEM NO THEY CONTINUE AND STILL DONT ASK THE DRIVERS TO SLOW DOWN.

Luckily all the bodies were found so the families could of bury their dead.
Tragedy struck so unexpected, it would take a long time for life to be the same for the survivors who saw that horrorful experience.

I hope the people who use the backtrack learn from this tragedy and have proper safety equipment on these boats, and the govt should regulation on the backtrack and monitor it’s operation. R I P
