i wish not to tell my name and give too much info…. but lisa and i were best friends since childhood and we still are. and she is a great person. but what i dont get is why that old crrep would want to beat up such a beautiful woman like lisa. she did nothing wrong to him. what guyana needs is a good police system that will be there right away when somebody calls. the wait till all the bad is done and then shows up. they also need a good law that will protect abused women from their abusive spouses.well i wish lisa great recovery may god look over you.

This man should be in jail where the crazy people are and they should beat him. He has no mercy. That is a very tragic beating and he could of kill her. Imagine two of her front teeth came out and then he fractured her skull. I am so sorry to hear about this. No one should be treated like that by their own companion.

Pitiful. Change the domestic violence laws. All violations of orders of protection renders the violator ie. victim and abuser to 6 months in prison. No going back to beg the judge. Off to jail with no ticket to get out for 6 mos.

The law needs to be changed this way so when dem want mek up dem ah go jail anyhow for wasting the government time and resources. He needs to be arrested and incarcerated at the prison farm for 6 months with the cat-o-nine licking him for 6-26 lashes. Let him see that him nah know the day nor hour of the lashes. Punk he is.

I would not call her an enabler at this stage with a fractured skull. This woman is in for a long rehab. As a nurse I would say she needs all the help and prayers we can give. And!!!!!!stop mouthing like this nah happen big time all over de world!!!! Rampant in the USA and here in Jamaica too.

it is possible for one not to remember what happened. lets remember she had fractured skull and depending on what region of the brain was affected by the concussion. on the other hand it can also be that she remembers but doesn’t want the man to be jailed which in any sense is a dumb move. he needs to be penalize to the fullest extent by law.

Excellent…I know this poem, and the victim too. This poem says everything I wanted to write a few days ago when I first saw this article, heard about this abuse. She needs a wake-up call and if this is not it, then what is?

The criminal / bully / coward is a known businessman in Georgetown who said that the police can’t do him anything. This is what the police of Guyana does….any criminal with money can buy their way out of their crime, and the victim remains helpless because she can’t do the same to protect herself from this monster.

Where are the halfway houses / government support that she can go to, in order to get away from him so that she gains independence from this man?

In Western societies he would have gotten at least 5 years in jail. When will the laws of Guyana change to protect women from these cowards? She would have no rights to waive any charges aganst him. Once there is evidence of abuse, her rights will be in the court of the law because the court recognizes that the woman will always try to recant / retract her statements because of her “Love / caring / needy” demeanour. And he should be charged with supporting you for life if you are unable to find a job after this to take care of yourself. You are a VICTIM of CRIME.

Lisa, I hope you do get to read this someday…..going back with this BULLY / COWARD will not make you a hero. Running away from him will. If you love yourself, you will leave him and take all the help you can get from the government to put him away for a long time. He deserves to fall in SHAME for this act of crime. And everyone must know who he is so that he has no financial security to hold over your head. WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND.

Just look at the support, and wise words you are getting throughout the world, and from previous victims who changed their life after. These are your friends and people who care….not that monster. Be strong, be independent. You can do it!!! Do it for your life and your family.

And don’t listen to anyone who will tell you that you have to go back to him because that is your only security. He is just waiting for that chance. He would have negative respect for you if you go back with him. It does not matter what he says. He is crazy, and mentally unstable, and obviously needs counselling for anger management. He would get all the help he needs in jail, and come out much humbler if he has 1/2 of a brain.

Get ANGRY for what he has done to you, and talk to your friends or anyone who will listen about it. This will help you to stay strong & independent. I know what you shoud feel….most of us women have endured it. You can’t lie to us. We know!!! We have been there. Get help for yourself.

There are eyewitness to the beating…he should ave been kept behind bars based on that! She obviously didn’t beat herself up, threw herself down the stairs….. so even if she can’t remember, there’s evidence to charge him. It took years to get domistic abuse upgraded to a crime in America because of the women shielding the man, but now there are opportunities for the woman to get assistance and move on with her life,….they even provide a new name and social security number for these women. Guyanese society is small and that may not work, but something drastic needs to be done.

in reply to your mail, this woman received a sound beating from this man as it is alledged. has he erase her mind or brain wash her that she cannot remember anything at all. he is cruel and deserves to be punished for his actions.

he should be lost away. there is no amount of apology that can change the issue. had he killed her that would have been a report of one more abused womwn gone down in the books. now she is also wasting the police time , the woman officer went to take statement and she cant remember nothing. how it all started even if he beats her and she gets unconscious she must remember what happen before she loose consciousness. its a waste of time that is why the police are reluctant to pursue domestic violence, because these women always shielding these men and before you know it they are killed when it could have been avoided.

i dont care if he is the breadwinner or not . once you are not crippled find a job and get going. its time our women stop depending on men for support , this makes them get brazen and feel that they can do you as they please. batter you and abuse you when they like. hats off to the working independent women like myself.

have anyone considered the fact that if the woman was hit in the head she can have injuries that can result in her not being able to remember things? i’m not saying that there isn’t a possibility that she’s trying to protect her attacker, but we must take into consideration that fact that she was hit in the head thus resulting in the loss of a tooth and all the other physical evidence on her face. it’s sad but it’s the reality. who knows she may never remember anything, but God is the judge and he would deal with the person who did that to the poor woman.

Only who feels it knows it. An abuse woman feels helpless,hopeless and unloved.She feels that when ever she is been beaten by her spouse that it is some how her fault. The constant hurt and pain leaves her feeling worthless and extremely depress.There is the other notion that no body else would love her.Some women believe that to be a complete woman she has to have a man in her life.It is extremely hard to walk away.The more the abuse the harder is it to leave this is an example of a battered wife syndrome. It is important that the system in Guyana set up help for these individuals and programs in which they can learn how to identify abuse and empower themselves to leave such a relationship thus rebuilding their self esteem.I hope that Lisa recover from her physical injuries and obtain the strenght to seek help for her emotional and mental injuries.I did,and I am a very happy woman today.

As far as i am concerned you have hit the nail on the head Sydney.

It’s quite foolish that in this day and age the police mush have a statement from this woman before they could proceed with charges, notwithstanding they apparently have eye witnesses.

Do we also have to nudge the authorities into being proactive and amend the lay given this obvious loop-hole?

If these men know that, statement or not, their asses will be hauled over the coals whenever they abuse women like this, there will be an immediate reduction in these types of crimes.

Until then there will be the usual finger pointing where blame is shifted from police to magistrate, to “uncooperative victim”, to ministers etc.
