The police took a statement yesterday from Trevolta Peters, four days after he was stabbed at a barbecue in Sophia.

The man’s friend and wife had made several visits to the Sophia police station since Saturday night in a bid to get the police to act on the matter.

Peters who is recovering at the Georgetown hospital was stabbed around 9:30 pm on Saturday.
When Stabroek News spoke to the man yesterday he said that a police officer had visited him and taken a statement from him.

Peters’ wife Samantha Cornette told Stabroek News that prior to this move by the police she and a friend of Peters had visited the station several times and were given a number of excuses. The last time Cornette visited the station which was on Tuesday she was told that the rank who took the report on the night of the stabbing has gone on a training programme and when he returned he would deal with matter.

Meanwhile, Peters who is well enough to sit up in bed recalled the night of the stabbing. He said that at the barbecue he saw two women who did not pay him the previous day when they travelled in his minibus. He said that one of them approached him and began to throw taunts at him; telling him that she needed a special but “you ain’t got a cent to get.” He said that he replied asking her if she had shares in the bus. At this point a male who was in the company of the two women “talked up” to him. He walked away but returned to the spot to get his wife who was still there. Peters said that he told Cornette that they would leave because he did not want any trouble. However before they could have walked away, the man pulled out a knife and stabbed him.

Cornette said that the driver of Peters’ minibus told her that he saw one of the women hailing a bus on her way to work yesterday morning and she definitely could be found if the police had done any particular investigation.

Clearly you can see that the police does not have any interest in the well being of the ordinary citizens. It is a pity . Trevolta i hope you have a speedy and full recovery.
