I just read this article and while I have never met MR. de Caries, I feel a bit emotional at this time. He seems to be a very outstanding and compassionate person. There are some people who pass through life without touching anyone’s soul and some who leave their foot prints deep in the sand for us to follow, de Caries seems to be one of the persons who touched the lives of many and who was an inspiration to all those around him. He will be missed and I hope that his legacy lives on for generations. My condolences to his family and friends.

Not only was he progenitor ot what must be the best newspaper Guyana has ever had, but he was also big on restoration — the Camp Street Aveneu and more rec ently the Theatre Guild, which is today a thing of beauty of which he must have been proud. There should be some fitting memorial to thuis great man — hopefully the committees of the avenue and guild restoration projects would think along this line and do something tasteful, after giving it careful thought…

Refering to the “Guyana needs an Obama” headliner, I must remind you that Guyana has already had “Obamas”…Forbes Burnham (small man is the real man, all awee ah one family, share the wealth etc.), Cheddi Jagan with his extreme socialistic idealogy… I have lived here in excess of 30 years and served in the military and I am not and never will be a Republican supporter but….and I say but…watch this Obama cat real close, you follow me? I moved here to better my life a long time ago because the system, though as flawed as any, worked! Obama represents change but if given the opportunity, he is capable in my humble opinion ( and I got goat mouth no rass) of changing this country into a place of less success stories as he implements his ’share the wealth’ plan. It reeks of socialism…ugh!

Truth is the ultimate disinfectant…….David de Caires was always admired by me in his ultimate quest for truth in the political quagmire now existent in Guyana. I may not have always agreed with his newspaper’s editorials and thrust but admired his indomitable spirit and courage. May God bless his soul….his life was an example to all Guyanese of all races. he is admired in the Diaspora…He will be sorely missed

David deCaires was fearless, gracious and one of the few surviving gentleman. To those who knew him well, he was a worker’s boss. I salute this great son of the soil in death, certain that the exemplary life he has lived and his meaningful contributions will be etched in this country’s history.

Stabroek News is poorer with his loss but deCaires ideals will hopefully steer the newspaper has in the past. What a fine paper it is!

I wept for I knew him

It is very sad that he had to endure the stress of having those problems with the ads issue while he was in poor health…no one knows what he was feeling at that time,my prayers are with his wife and family who would have been at his side thoughout and knows what he went through,may his soul rest in peace.

I have known David since the 1970’s, for over 38 years, as a Brilliant British trained Attorney in Guyana, successful businessman, Chairman of Theatre Guild Restoration Project, and Chairman/Publisher of Stabroek News.

David, was always a committed, caring, honest, trustworthy, and a crusader for FREEDOMS and THE TRUTH, throughout his entire life.

Mr de Caries was one of those Guyanese who had wanted to see Guyana
move on.

Some politican had tried to stop him but he did what he had to do by confronting all the issues without fear,

I will remember Mr de Caries for the way he fight againist this PPP
administration to get back the StabroekNews add, Oh I love it.

It will be good if his succssor follows in the same direction and do the same as he did or even better, Guyana need more De Caries at this time.
