You are either ignorant of our recent history as it relates to Burnham or you continue to suckle on the milk of misinformation and propaganda which has been liberally poured into the consciousness of Guyanese by the PPP for all of my lifetime. (I am 53) It was Burnham who changed the name of our international airport from Atkinson to Timehri, in recognition of our indigenous peoples’ status as the first settlers in Guyana.

There are many out there who have never subscribed to the name change of the Airport! That too is something that has to be rectified when the time is right. The older ones in Guyana will remember the statue of Queen Victoria which was discarded at the back of Botanical Gardens during the Burnham regime. We all know where that statue is right now! In the same way, the name,Timehri, will be restored to its rightful place at the right time. That is inevitable!!!!

I hope that those who read your blog understand what you are saying and see hope in its implications. The US govt. has long given up on seeking the cooperation of the Jagdeo regime in tracking down and apprehending Guyanese wanted by Uncle Sam. What Jagdeo and his croonies do not seem to understand is that whether they cooperate or not the “trade” and the “traders” will inevitably be brought to justice! We may question the US’s strategy in their war against drugs. That is not the issue here as far as I am concerned. The issue for me is that Uncle Sam will never….I repeat…never allow Guyana to degenerate to the status of a genuine narco-state. She has too much at stake, GEOPOLITICALLY, to allow this to happen.

A few years ago I posited the view that we were incorporating a new understanding into our national culture which I describe as the “Ostrich Syndrome.” The friend of Ghalee is one of a generation who takes this natural denial of reality ( I guess it is their way of protecting themselves from the trauma of dehumanisation! ) for granted. The friend of Ghalee probably also believes that the Blue label/duck curry lifestyle that some of us live in Guyana is funded by a vibrant economy based on our exports of rice, sugar, bauxite and gold!!! Wake up my friend ! There are more Ghalees in our society than you may know or even want to admit. I remember my 27 year old daughter’s response when I asked her about the primary goal of her generation. She said that her generation’ s philosophy was, “Get rich quickly or die trying!” Your friend has now joined the swelling ranks of the walking dead in Guyana!

I hear the racist and uninformed; they could be different or one and the same; they have convinced themselves that Jagan and Jagdeo are automatically equal to Burnham because they both became President of Guyana. Some even use their naive imaginations to see the latter two as superior to Burnham. I remember well the day Sir Linden Pindling uttered the words: “…With the passing of Williams of Trinidad and Burnham of Guyana, The Bahamas has been catapulted in the position of leader in the Caribbean…”
Burnham, once referred to in the Argosy (a Guyana newspaper owned by the English many decades ago) as a man possessing “Churchillian oratory” was a genuine intellectual and card-carrying member of the illuminati. He stood head, shoulders and chest above those he is being compared to.
