Two gunmen on Friday afternoon held up employees of Toucan Industries on Water Street and later escaped with $500,000.

Up to press time none of the perpetrators had been caught.

Police said in a statement that they were investigating the robbery under arms which occurred around 6.30 pm, during which the manager Fazal Shaw and a female cashier were attacked and robbed by two men armed with handguns.

Investigations revealed that the men entered the building and held up the two victims and took away $500,000 cash and escaped.

    Too, too many gun robberies now……..we need more police patrols, more road blocks, more stop and frisk and most of all more under cover operations…….I know that the police is doing better than they had done in the past which they should be applauded for but there is still room for improvement, more needs to be done to limit this crime wave. All businessmen and potential businessmen are afraid for their life and money since situations like this is a daily occurence these days….everyone is wondering when will be their turn for a visit from these heartless bandits.

    As long as their’s unemployment in guyana there will always be crime, unless opportunities are there for all crime will always prevail in guyana, and that’s the hard reality we have to come to grip with.

    A businessman once robbed, or targeted to constant robbery, can hire private detectives, would cost a little, but you would eventually get your reward….

    Just yesterday i responded to the Guysuco payroll robbery now i have to respond to Toucan Industries robbery the police is not to be blamed at this point ,punishment for crimes need to be reviewed in Guyana and change so they know publicly what punishment to face when caught.
    Finger print and id photos should be stored into a data base for crime fighting.
    jobs is not why crime is rising ,vanity and sweet life some of them desire so badly is the problem.
