An unemployed man who pleaded guilty to stealing a boat with an engine was last Thursday sentenced to two years imprisonment when he appeared at the Springlands Magistrate Court.
The court heard that around 7.30 am on November 3, Navin Ramkirrat, 32, of Crabwood Creek, Corentyne stole the boat that was fitted with a 48 HP Yamaha outboard engine valued $672,000 belonging to David Peters.

Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Michael Grant, told the court that on the day in question, Peters heard the sound of his boat and engine “in a channel in the Corentyne River” and discovered that Ramkirrat had stolen it.

The prosecutor also said that the boat and engine have been recovered. He said too that the defendant had only been released from prison two weeks ago after serving time for a similar offence.
Ramkirrat told Magistrate Chandra Sohan that he was sorry for what he did and begged him to be lenient.
