Three licensed firearm holders lost their weapons in separate incidents on Wednesday and so far two arrests have been made.
According to a police press release, a licensed firearm holder of Anira Street, Queenstown awakened around 5 pm and discovered that his home was broken into and his weapon, a .32 Beretta pistol, ammunition and a laptop computer were missing from his bedroom.
In the second incident, the release stated, a resident of Shopping Plaza Road, South Ruimveldt who is currently on vacation left his .32 Taurus Pistol locked away in his bedroom which is used by his family.
Checks made for the firearm on Tuesday revealed that it was missing.
According to the release, the man’s son and two other men are in custody assisting the police with investigations.
Then a woman left her .32 Taurus revolver with ammunition in her handbag in the lunch room at her workplace and when she later checked it was missing.
Investigations are continuing.

Well I’m afraid this is going to comtinue if this government does not stop issueing licences to people, the more gun licence issued, the more guns for the criminals, that is the only purpose it will serve, because only a small number of people can actually defend themselves when attacked, even if they have a bazooka,DON’T GIVE PEOPLE GUN LICENSE!!
How can a man protect his property/life against ruteless criminals, remember the Meadow Brook story without a gun theres no “One Shot One Kill”
Arnold, that case in Meadowbrook,is the one in a million, how many cases like that have you seen, the bandits in that case was surprised, that man had a great advantage, besides the fact that he had the guts,he had friends to back him up,it was not a good opportunity for the bandits, they made a bad choice when they choose to attack him!!!
That is exactly how these weapons gets into the wrong peoples hand ,they got these weapons for protection and cannot hold on to them, look at the places these people loose these weapon ,they are lucky that they were not killed by there own weapon.
People with licensed firearms should lodge them with the GPF for safekeeping when they leave on vacation! A firearm shouldn’t be left in a lunch room and – If you intend to sleep that deep then I guess you don’t need a firearm!! As guy123 says “even if you had a bazooka” you wouldn’t have been able to mount a defence to the robber(s).
THAT IS HOW IT USED TO BE….MY DAD NEVER LEAVE HIS GUN AT HOME IF HE KNEW HE WILL BE AWAY FOR MORE THAN A DAY…..HE ALWAYS TOOK IT TO THE POLICE STATION FOR SAFE KEEPING.
I would say that this is irresponsible behavior on the part of these firearm holders. If you cannot protect the one thing that you have to protect you against the criminal elements that are running around in Guyana, do you think that they have the knowledge to protect themselves when attacked. Confiscate their licenses. And i agree with Ankoko, they should lodge their weapons with the nearest police station when they proceed on vacation. You never leave a firearm unsecured and in an unsafe situation.
a woman takes her firearm to work and left it in her handbag in the lunch room(am thinking she’s a cop or something) or it seems that a lot of people are seeing it fit to arm themselves in order to protect self and property. guns, guns, everywhere.
Guns and the bullets for the gun should never be kept in the same place unless the bullets are actually loaded in the gun.
Every lost bullet could result in an innocent third part losing their life. Owners shown to be careless with guns should have their licences revoked FOR GOOD.
Prosecuted too. Owning and possessing a firearm is serious business and should always be held that way!
During the kick-down-the door banditry of the 80s, a licensed firearm holder had in the sights of his shot gun a bandit kicking down his neighbour door. He was just about to pull the trigger and send the bandit to St. Peter when his wife and daughter take way the gun from he. Explain that.
Another licensed firearm holder had the gun in he hand and pushing he wife in front to go face the bandits. Explain that.
Guyana, welcome to Texas U S A,,,, as an Armoror, the first lesson i was taught, is 1. Always assume a weapon is loaded, 2. never pull a weapon unless you’re going to use it. 3 The only people who should possess a weapon is law enforcement. If you follow these simple rules, it will be easier for the Joint Forces to conduct their business in weeding out the criminal elements.
So very right but . . . . weapons are even being rent by corrupt cops
