The proprietors of Sam’s bakery on Prince William Street Plaisance were left minus their days’ earnings when two armed bandits robbed the bakery last night.
Around 8 pm the bakery’s owners were closing off sales and preparing goods for the next day when the bandits walked in “quite ordinary” and walked out with an undisclosed sum of money representing yesterday’s takings.
When Stabroek News visited the premises last evening the four persons who were present during the robbery were recounting what had happened. “We didn’t believe it was a robbery, everything happened so quickly,” one of the women said. She was sitting on a bench outside when the two robbers, who she said appeared very young, walked in. One of them placed the gun at her side while the other walked into the shop and proceeded to order the man and woman inside to hand over the money. He collected the cash and picked up a cell phone on the way out also. This woman said that she thought it was a young man she knew from down the road making jokes with her.
One of the owners who did not want to give her name told Stabroek News that she was leaning over the counter talking to two other women outside when the bandits came in and went about their business without much fuss. The woman said that everyone was shocked and “trancelike” not reacting to the guns pointed at them.
The men then walked out as they came in and walked up the street to the public road where a car was parked. They fired one gunshot in the air as they were leaving. “Who gon run behind them then,” one woman said. The Sparendaam Police Station is not too far away from Prince William Street.
The police were informed and were taking statements when this newspaper arrived, some two hours after the incident.

So brazen and barefaced, they take even the little that you have, and if anyone resist would be injured/maimed/killed. That ’s why when they’re caught have to be battered to submission..
You with your brutality mentality, the police shouldn’t beat anyone into submission, that’s against the law that’s why there’s a court in guyana.
No Arnold, you are so wrong, why would you want to harm these poor young men, who were refused employment by all society. We should just give them a pat on the back and say job well done
ARNOLD why do u think their is so much bareface crime happening in guyana
do you have a clue sir, pretty soon bareface crime will be happening all over
the world, the economic crisis that is taking shape in all the developed countries
will have a resounding effect on all thrid world countries so dont be so cruel in
your thinking of these criminals they have to survive, i would recommend that
business people protect their establishments and home owners protect your property it is reality things are getting hard and harder every day, look at how many criminals have been killed by the police it is not a deterrent, these criminals
know they will die they are not stupid but they have to survive, its a sad situation
that is happening all over the world..
You are not even in Guyana right now and hear the nonsense a big woman like you talking!!!
Strange….that village is known as the most peaceful village,it is difficult for bandits to come from outside and commit a crime there…because of the way they live,if someone in there does it they will surely be caught, that was well planned, they are strangers, they had their getaway car on the public road waiting,I bet they would’nt try that further down in the village, they would be lynched, there is a lot of poverty in there and it is full of junkies and theives who are known, when they thief they are beaten badly!!!
come on my fellow guyanese is time we wake up and try to protect our selves…try make some pepper water,,have some acid water and bath theses bandits ….until we start react in some harsh way they would not back away…
And Sanhurst still worried but the unsanitary conditions in the lock up,
When will this crap be controlled??? Sam’s Bakery is about 500mts from the Sparendaam Police Station, the Post Office & the Magistrate’s Courts. How the heck do criminals walk into a bakery so close to a police station!?!?!?!
Beacuase they don’t have any regard for the police. ARNOLD, you should know I was only kidding, I do not condone criminals, I have zero tolerance for their kind.
It is sad that turbo thinks like that. it is not hard just a lilittle effort to plant a piece of farm to feed your family .But it takes 0 effort to rob & steal. The great President worries about a few Diwallie fire crackers……. AND HE CARES_LESS ABOUT BANDITS running wild with eligal GUNS Mr.Jagdeo should wake up and & just once look at the headlines
Mr Arnold you seem to have a very violent streak in you, until you understand the true nature of crime only then will you moderate you views. Crime comes as a result of poverty. There aren’t many jobs in Guyana, thousands of young men walk the streets and hang on the corner. I am not condoning crime but what do you expect.I guarantee you that criminals will become more violent because they know that when caught they will be tortured. what about old fashion police work, the police we have today are just as criminal. They work for slave wages and cannot feed their family so that is another problem.Guyana is so far back in the dark ages it will be difficult to change things easily. Pray for guyana.
After reading some of you comments, I arrived at the conclusion, that most of you are confused as to what action you require from the police as it relates to the handling of theives that carries knives, guns and use violence against their victims. One time they {police} are good and another time they are bad. Come on guys make up your minds as to who’s side you are on, is it the theif or the police?. Remember now, police and theives are not friends and will never be. Check this; if the police had arrived on the scene in time to confront these two hooligans and had shot both of them dead, the ‘confused’ were going to cry foul. It was always and will continue to be my motto for theives, “that all theif fee dead”. Please public, give any info you have on these two suspects to the police before they strick again and make you their next victim.
Mr Simon our beloved Mr L F S Burnham had the insight that idle hands are the devil’s workshop,so in his magnificent wisdom introudced the National Service.
What ever became of that? If my memory serves me right it brought out the best in a lot of us including. You know who. Good night al
It is unfortunate that hard working people are robbed day and night from what little they earn. I think it is time that business proprietors be issued licensed fire arms to defend themselves. Power only back down in the face of more power. Guyana is the only Republic in South America where guns seem to be a luxury and not a necessity for its law abiding citizens.
