The court heard that between November 14 and November 15, Rookmin Greene called ‘Wattie’ of Liverpool, Corentyne reportedly assisted two prisoners who were inmates at the New Amsterdam prison in their escape bid, which was subsequently foiled.

Reports are that the woman concealed a cutting implement in a pair of footwear and allegedly snuck it into the prison to aid the men to escape.

According to reports reaching this newspaper a prison warden was doing his normal rounds when one of the men asked to use the washroom. When he had opened the cell for one of the men to come out the other locked him off from behind.

They then tied him up on the floor and took away his radio and bunch of keys and proceeded to open the other cells. The two men then cut open two bars in the ventilation space in the cell they shared and climbed through the opening they had made. They made it as far as the prison gardens before they were spotted and an alarm was raised. They were apprehended and taken back to their cells.

Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Satrohan Dayaram objected to bail for Greene on the nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence. He said that if the defendant is granted bail, the security of the state would be threatened.

In his application for bail, attorney-at-law, Rodwell Jagmohan said that his client has a fixed place of abode and that if she is granted bail she would return to court. He said the prosecution did not submit enough reasons for bail to be denied. The woman is scheduled to return to court on Monday for bail review.

I agree no bail, she should be locked up, it’s people like this who help these criminal to escape, she should be made an example to all others who are thinking about helping criminals to break out of jail, she should be made to feel the full effect of the courts by a long jail sentence, good work by the prision guard in foiling the escape.

  2. Uncle Joe UNITED STATES says:

The person who was alert and quick-witted enough to spot the escape attempt and raise an alarm should be commended and rewarded. At the same time one wonders what kind of search procedures and policies are in place in Guyana’s prison system and whether or how well they are enforced.

    • ankoko UNITED STATES says:

Indeed! The law enforcement machinery in this country has not kept pace with the sophictication of the criminals.
This incident shows to me that proper searches are not carried out to persons and items to which prisoners have access. It also shows how the use of one of the best crime fighting tools can detect/foil criminality. That tool is -OBSERVATION

why was she not searched which would have inclued taking off her shoes ,they need to be doing their job

  4. Crabby CANADA says:

Rookmin Greene should have been searched thoroughly from head to toe. There are more unscrupulous people than honest ones.

It is a pity that her innocent children will be made to suffer for her lack of good judgement.. Now they will be mother-less. I just do not know why folks keep making babies only to make them suffer and not give them the love and attention they need.

    • Bertilia UNITED STATES says:

No one should suggest that this woman does not love her children nor give them the attention that they need and deserve. We cannot prove that. A bad and stupid judgement was made with helping these criminals and yes she should be prosecuted to the full and a message should be sent to others that aiding and abetting will not go by lightly. I pray that the children will be given to a family member who will take good care of them. They will suffer for their mother’s stupidity but I pray for God’s speeding their patience, understanding, forgiveness, love and guidance during that ordeal.

This mother should be extremely punished she is the worse example for kids she should be lock up and never return to society.

On November 15th -08 I read that acting Police Commissioner Mr Henry Greene mention and these were his words as follow: the gang were hiring guys more organised obviously did a lot of planning and did a lot of intelligence work.

Now this nonsense this could have been worse what is the authorities doing, train your staff to do their jobs and ensure that you have tight security systems in place this is negligence due to your lcck of security.
No bail jail for life. Thanks to the ones who was doing their job hats off to you good job.

I know this womam personally and she is a regular visitor to the New Amsterdam Prison, she takes self support daily for her brother and because she is well known, i see it the reason why the prison officers have slacked up on her. I must also say, that when one enters the prison as a civilian, they are not searched but instead the articles in which they have took in. However prisoners entering and leaving the prison compound are subject to searches from head to toe. What i’m talking is known facts.

  10. tobadtoosad UNITED STATES says:

well, being that this country never do things the right way of course she was not searched..its just amazing she bring them any weapons
