– 80 private/hire drivers
The police have prosecuted 149 people for traffic offences during the past month.
In a press statement issued last evening they said that these prosecutions are part of their ‘Zero Tolerance’ traffic enforcement.
According to the police, between October 25 and yesterday they prosecuted 69 persons for soliciting passengers (touting) throughout their divisions.
Further, they said, 80 persons have been charged and placed before the courts for using their vehicle for other than what it was licensed for example: using a private care for hire.

About time they start this but can they tell us how many are police?
Way to go!
LOL
good work this touting must stop.
yu mean Criminal “LOOKOUTS”
Well?
Have repeat incidents declined?
I guess we have to await next month’s report.
Nonsense…… .i was in town today and the same thing happening!!!
Veecock, Guyana only got 750,000 people so the answer has to be yes.
…….not bad its good that you can rid the streets of one of guyana’s social ill…….crime start in this corner of society…….on the other hand the ministry of human services can establish an ad to invite these touts to come in and clean up there act and put themself to good use in the guyanese society……..because at the end of the day these same touts abuse our guyanese women ……….
The Government need to create jobs for people.
The people need to prepare themselves for the opportunity of work, not the other way around,,, or would you hire someone whose only ambition in life is to find a way to rob, steal and kill?.
Nonsense..what are the bogus charges they are putting these ppl on. are they any charges in Guyana that you can put someone on for touting? These people are incompetent as ever.
blahblah.
PLEASE READ THE ARTICLE AGAIN AND YOU WILL SEE WHAT THE CHARGE IS.
CHECK THE U.S AND YOU WILL FIND THE SAME L A W.
This situation can be used to fingerprint these “touts” to build a database since there are criminal elements among them.
It’s a move in the right direction, my question is, are we going to see more consistant efforts by the JPF to enforce this and other problems affecting the quality of life in Guyana?.
How would they earn a living now?I know…snach,rob,con.Way to go..fools i say!
there are no jobs in Georgetown and its environs these people have families to feed, children to send to school and let us not forget rent to pay-create jobs and then you can do that.
thats their jobs to snatch rob con….in guise of bus touts….thats their carreers….
yuh think dem like fuh wok fuh a living fuh feed dem family???? you go there and see fuh yuhself and then represent them and bash govt….dem man dont like to be told what to do and when to do it……thats the bottom line…they aint gona wok period….
what do you mean how the will live? there jobs as touting was to rob, snatch and con ppl so is not like the government taking a honest man off his honest job come one get real.
Hey Rubbs,
They have one intention , that’s to make a quick dollar !
They have no intention of getting a job that requires them to work hard and behave respectable . They’ve apparently been dragged up with the wrong influence, hang out with the wrong crowd, and listen to the wrong advice . Now how could you get such an individual to think about a decent job. It’s not that guyana has no job , they don’t care about any other type of job.
Like one blogger said ‘ why would you hire somebody who’s only ambition in life is to find a way to rob, steel & kill.
Like they say ‘ you can put lipstick on a pig but at the end of the day ,it’s still a PIG ! ‘
