Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday remanded a man who allegedly had in his possession 262 grammes of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
Travis Smith pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking when it was read to him.
It is alleged that on November 25 at Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, Smith had the cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Smith was refused bail and the matter transferred to the Leonora Magistrate’s Court. His next court appearance is on December 11.

Oh oh, 262 grams can’t be for medicin, got to be for get rich lil quick. So hush you mouth you goin to jail.
giv the man a break
Babylon dem thief my herbs ..dem thief my herbs.
When will u people wake up?….stop believeing the hype and research marijuana and u will see that its harmless….alcahol/ cigarettes are way much worst.
i rather the man sell herb than sell coke., crack etc…
its all natural…king solomon smoked it and he was the wisest man in his days.
i wonder how come he didnt go crazy and kill peolpl like the ” myth” says it do to people.
i know the extremist gonna say ” it meck people use other drugs and kill and rape and rob” but thats what people do when they use alcahol , cigarettes and without using any of the above mentioned.
the Guyana govt need to follow the usa and canada and make marijuana the least on the police resonsabilities list.
the time and money they take to arrest and prosecute and jail this man they could have been looking for real criminals and possibly ( i said possibly not will) catch a few of them.
on the other hand how do they know he had the herb on him?…maybe they wanted him on something else so they use the herb as a means of catching him.
anyways Herb is natural…no chemical …jah meck it
how much years u gonna give GOD for making the herbs which he gave to man to consume.
just …….LEGALIZE IT……and fill the jails/ prisons with real criminals.
If you can get bail for possession of a firearms, certainly you should get bail for Marijuana…..Then again this is Guyana we’re talking about, never mind, I take that back.
Give the man a break, its weed not a firearm. U r not a getto youth u should change ur name.
NOW IF HE HAD SOLD THE GANJA, AND BOUGHT A GUN AND COMMITTED ARMED ROBBERY, HE’D BE FREE ON BAIL, IT’S JUST BAD TIMING ON HIS PART.
Why gave the man a break?
They are the people who have the society as it is. The work for the big fishes.
The would have to gave account for every soul that they destroy by illegal drugs or otherwise.
Jail them and apply the full amximum penalty.
Getto Youth…please why is it a big deal to use something that is natural and grows from the ground…they are just mad b/c they can’t tax it…
who cares lock up the men how kill people and beat and they wife
