I grew up and went to school with James(Rondel) Gibson..When I was a young girl attending St Augustine Church in Friendship..Rondel as I know him was an Altor Boy his mother taught Sunday School and His Dad was an elder in the church. In school, ROndel represented Saints in the Baskeball team. He was always a bright person. When I left Guyana in 2002 he had just enrolled at UG to study IT and was playing for Buxton basketball team..I have never known my friend and brother to be a criminal. I love him unconditionally and if he did all those things the newspaper saying he did. I say let God be the Judge. I will miss my friend dearly and my heart goes out to all the families who lost someone in this terrible tragedy esp his.

malaika06; for sometime, I have been pondering the idea of establishing a website for the purpose you suggested.

I am Glad you are ‘on board’ with this idea and hopefully with the cooperation of others, we will be able to do this together.

Hopefully, there will be comments from many others indicating an interest and willingness to go foward in this direction.

If the above happens, we can move foward in concrete ways.

Maybe only in Buxton and agricola they run because they are in cohorts .The children in other east coast villages welcome the police and are glad to see them and wish they patrol their villages 10 times a day .

A hero is someone who does something out of the ordinary to help others . Desperate times calls for desperate measures . The situation was becoming unbearable after the prison break and the bandits were creating havock , the police and the people were living in fear –so up comes a man who took on these thugs —he saved many innocent lives . I do not not know or met Chicester or gibson since I do not associate with criminals . As soldier remarked —they hailed Blackie as a hero and freedom fighter –when all he did was rob, terrorised and killed innocent people .

i respect your input neil; persons love to blame people too much for their follies, these guys must take responsibility for their actions. they are theives, murderers and therefore needs to be out of society,they have no consideration for other peoples hard earn dollars nor lives. lets us don,t blame the police for nothing, these guys can desern good and bad so let it be.

Give the entire story stone80. The Government — past and present — have a great part to play in the lawlessness that is pervasive in our society.

My wish list:
1. No more than 2 terms for any Government — regardless of race.
2. Have an accountability board that is autonomous (absolutely no influence from the President)
3. Increase infrastructure and Government spending outside of Coastal Region e.g. a highway that traverses Guyana through our rainforest. (This would increase internal migration, create jobs and raise our GDP).
4. Propose and implement stronger tariffs for imports (especially luxury items).
5. Provide favourable tax legislation to export, manufacturing, fishermen and farmers
6. Create incentives for tertiary education for selected programmes (e.g. 50% reduction in duty up to $4M for students that graduate from UG with a GPA > 2.7. Eligible programs: engineering, agriculture, forestry)
7. Significantly improved IT and telecommunications infrastructure. This may be synonymous with ridding the country of GT&T. Cellular phones and internet cafes do not significantly improve the real GDP. Businesses need the infrastructure to communicate efficiently both technologically and economically. The police force and joint services could instantly benefit if there was a centralized database and communication system.

I could continue for miles but I am sure you get the idea. SN has done a great job in creating a central forum. Hopefully these observationts do not fall on deaf ears and some ideas will soon come to fruition.

Thanks for the lesson on body armour JN.

It seems most of the high powered rifles the criminals use have been stolen from the GDF armouies so as the criminals do not appear to currently have hallow point (armour penetrating) rounds, the government should ensure that the GDF or other special forces in Guyana never purchase such powerful weapons or munitions because these are likely to disappear into the wrong hands.

Is it too foolhardy to hope that with new supervisory systems, the forces may stop bleeding arms to criminals? :-(

Cheryl, your are very welcome sis. I don’t blame you a bit in not wanting to go home, I support you in that all the way. Have a Merry Christmas and a bright, blessed and prosperous 2009. We will get a change in Gt as long as we get an OBAMA and yes we can !!!!!!!! Our citizens home needs to stand up and fight for their right but they are AFRAID, see what is going on in Thailand ? That is what they need to do, first thing take over the airport so that planes cannot land and the economy will loose a lot of money.Think about ways that will get the government going bananas, agree with me Cheryl ?

Well, Mme Defarge you are very welcome. I do hope you share this with family members that you have living abroad so that they can and would be safe and make sure that they come in on a morning flight. Season Greetings to you and your family and a bright, blessed, safe and prosperous New Year 2009.
Change is going to come to our home land soon as long as we get an OBAMA
and God is going to grant us what we sooooooooo deserve. By the way when ever your relatives visit don’t let them go straight home, what I do, I have my brother take me the Tower Hotel or Pegaus because that is what I put on my immigration form so if anyone is following you they will see you going there and turn off because it is not that easy to rob someone in those places, I would think, just my advice, its better to be safe than Sorry.
