—day’s takings missing
A 68-year-old businessman was found dead in his Parika, East Bank Essequibo home yesterday morning and it is believed that he had been strangled.
Dead is Brandis Roberts of Parika Highway. The dead man, who owned a gas station, was found with his hands tied behind his back and a pair of pants tied around his face, covering his mouth, police said. Jewellery that Roberts was wearing at the time, his cellular phone and keys were intact, relatives said.
Police, in a statement said that they were investigating the suspected murder of Roberts, whose body was discovered at his home at about 7.30 yesterday morning. The dead man’s nephew, Carl Prowell told Stabroek News that his uncle was killed some time between 6.30pm on Saturday and 7am yesterday. He stated that Roberts was last seen when he left the gas station for home at about 6.30pm on Saturday. He had a bag with the day’s sales and this was missing, Prowell said, though jewellery that the man was wearing, his cellular phone and keys were untouched.
Prowell said that his uncle usually left the gas station with the money.
Roberts’ body was discovered by his brother, Winsley, who went to check on him after he did not turn up at the gas station and calls to his cellular phone went unanswered. The building was unlocked and the body was lying on floor of the kitchen, located in the bottom flat of the two-storey building, Prowell said. He declared that his uncle had a gun, but they had not located it and it is uncertain if the bandits had taken it.
After the discovery, the police were alerted and the body was taken to the mortuary. The home, where Roberts lived alone, was sealed by the police yesterday.
Roberts and Winsley had operated the gas station, located not far from his home for over 20 years. It is not that first time that Roberts was robbed, Prowell related. He stated that earlier this year, bandits had robbed his uncle of $2.5M but nothing had ever come of the matter. “This action tek he life,” he said. Neighbours did not recall hearing anything and several persons were questioned as police investigated the matter.
The gas station was closed yesterday and persons in the area expressed shock at Roberts’s death. He leaves to mourn his brother, a daughter and other relatives. A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted today.

Day after day the killing continues and what the government doing making excuses. What happened to the innocent children who lost their father, their Uncle, Aunt, Brothers and sisters. A country where innocent people living with nightmares.
The Government said all is bright and beautiful and people leaving the country in droves instead of returning home.
How can you see progress when hard working people done a days work and in split second some one else is there to take away their earnings and on top of that killing innocent people.
Mr Jagdeo you aare the president and Commander in Chief what plans do you have to protect innocent people lives. Or at Election time you will tell the people that putting the PNC in office will not help. Because that is what you were peddling. How Can you Mr President and your Party sleep at nights know what is happening to innocent people.
The poverty in the country is excited and therefore causing more and more crime daily. The drug Lord running the country. Many unsolved cases.
GEORGIA ON MY MIND, I fully support your comments and suggestions that people should go to Parliament Building and other places and picket however, if you recall the PNC try to do that and when the Government recognise the people’s support they created problems for further demonstration. Innocent people was thrown into jail. Never-the-less we must not forget the innocent people from Lusigna massacre- When the people stood up against the Government they were in shock. What did President Jagdeo did, at the death anniversary of the late President Jagan at Babu John he told the people do you what the PNC back in Office and the indians swallow their pride and continue to support the wrong doing of this government.
The people are suffering daily not the government, not the Ministers nor the President. So do not blame the opposition when you are in the driver seat. What all the Opposition should so have a mass rally for justice.
let us all pray for guyana
SMARTGIRL – Or is it …DUMB Girl — The last time I checked, the US was made up of 50 states vise 52 …now I think you should get your FACTS Straight.
First off my sympathy to the family of this poor man, when is it going to end? a person is not even safe in his owm home, life has become so cheap to these crimenals! one is not allowed to make an honest living, you work hard and these bandits laywait to not only relieve you of your hard earned money, but also your LIFE1 anyway they have the greatest Judge to answer to Later!!!!!
Soldier, i don’t agree with you, the United States population is way higher than Guyana’s. Guyana has one of the smallest population compared to way smaller Caribbean Islands and look at the crime rate (Murders). So i don’t beleive Guyana should be compared with any other place. Bad News I agree with fully and also Tonto…. and why soldier had to ask Bad News if her was Guyanese?…his statment aint no lie it’s facts…I also beleive if you’re ready to die fast there is the place to go…..and what the government is not seeing is that Guyana’s population will soon vanish because who they aint kill out goin leave…and it’s goin to be to late. I pray everyday for the sake of the people and Guyana. I remember going to Guyana growing up and i always enjoyed it, i even planned to life there when i become older but i dont think so dred. My condolence to the family, the almighty God never sleeps, and remember Jesus Loves you.
These folks were sending a MESSAGE!! Therefore the jewelry, phones etc were left behind. All they wanted was their money or (goods)! May his soul rest in peace.
Guyana will soon take over Jamaica as the murder capital of the caribbean and may rank in the world soon if this madness is not stopped soon . Bring back the phantom .
I AM VERY SORRY TO HEAR THIS. MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE FAMILY. AND I AM THINKING ABOUT GOING BACK TO GUYANA TO VISIT.
so go back if you want to and see for yourself, i always go back and forth. For me it is because it is my roots and regardless of how “stank” it has gotten, it is still my courtry of birth. for others it may be different, but that is a decision you have to make on your own.
Consider also the psychological effects these crimes are having on guyanese world wide. We can’t even think straight anymore .
People don’t give up on Guyana so fast.Check out what is going on in Africa on the BBC news.Hundreds and Thousands, and Millions of our African Brothers and Sisters And Children are being slaughtered daily.weekly and yearly. But you are’nt being shown that in the news,Or what the Mexicam Mafia is doing in Mexico,or What is going on in central America. There are many other countries worst off and much more
dangerous than Guyana.Of course, you won’t know this ,unless you follow world news.God is in control.not to worry.Prophesy must be fullfilled.
God is working on a universal shake up.Every country is being touched.
Not Guyana alone.Crime is everywhere. In Africa,it’s tribe against tribe(blacks killing blacks-Christians against Muslims).
