A 28-year-old Linden mason appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with harbouring Rondell ‘Fineman’ Rawlins and his gang members and for being an accessory after the fact of murder.
Daniel De Souza of Half-mile Extension, Wismar, Linden was not required to plead to the indictable charges of harbouring wanted persons and being an accessory after the fact of murder when they were read to him by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
It is alleged that between April 22 and June 16 De Souza knowingly harboured Rondell ‘Fineman’ Rawlins, Cecil Semion Ramcharan known as ‘Magic Man’, Robin ‘Chung Boy’ Chung, Otis ‘Mud-up’ Fifee, and Mark Royden Williams known as Royden ‘Smallie’ Durant when the names and photographs were previously publicly displayed by the police as wanted persons in connection with the commission of murder.
Further, it is also alleged that between the same period at Wismar, Linden the accused did receive, provide relief, comfort, harbour, assist and maintain those whose names are stated above as well as Clerbert ‘Chi-chi’ Reece knowing that they had murdered Errol Thomas, Ronald Gomes, Ron Osborne, Shane Fredericks, Zaheer Zakir, Asharaf Ally Khan, Abdool Yasseen, Irvin Ferreira, Edwin Gilkes, Deonarine Singh and Baldeo Singh at Bartica on February 17.
De Souza sported a t-shirt which had the slogan “Live by the Code. Die by the Code”. After the charges were read to him he told the court that while he was not married he was the father of one child.
The accused said that he was in much pain and requested that the court do something to allow him to receive medical attention.
“I in lil pain,” De Souza said, “I bleeding through my right ear and I urinating blood plus my head paining because I was beaten by the police.”
The prosecution did not address the court during De Souza’s 10-minute appearance. De Souza was remanded and he has to appear at the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court on December 10.
“Why there?” De Souza wanted to know after the magistrate had made her announcement.
Magistrate Robertson then explained to the accused that his matters were transferred to the Christianburg Magis-trate’s Court because the crimes were allegedly committed in that court’s jurisdiction.
Gunmen, just after the Lusignan massacre in January, had invaded Bartica early on the morning of February 17 and during their rampage murdered 12 persons.

The Guyana judiciary should ‘hang’ their heads in shame at their inabilities.
Even the prisoners are trying to show them the way.
The prisoner’s shirt advertises … “Live by the Code. Die by the Code”
There is nothing more that needs to be added :-(
SATISH,
IT’S NOT LIVE BY THE CODE DIE BY THE CODE.
IT’S LIVE BY THE GUN DIE BY THE GUN.
SEE WHAT A HORRIBLE DEATH THEY ALL HAD?
THOSE WHO BELIEVED IN GOD PRAYED AND GOD AMSWERED THEIR PRAYERS.
THEY WOULD HAVE TO GAVE AN ACCOUNT OF ALL THOSE LIVES THEY TOOK INNOCENTLY.
WOE BE UNTO THEM. THE SOUR GRAPES THEY EAT HAVE EDGED THEIR TEETH.
Only God can judge him for what he had done………..that is.if he did do it indeed!!
oh.. for the love of pete..
will you people give it up…
everybody knows findman et al. did not do Bartica…
Why was this guy beaten by the gpf, if he’s guilty let the court do the judging and not the gpf.
DID YOU ASK THIS GUY WHY AND WHAT HE DID TO THOSE POOR SOULS THAT ARE DEAD AND GONE?
the man will soon claim police brutality, he is bleeding and in pain, need pain killer soon he will need the ghra.
Guilt by association!
Based on this article, he don’t seem to be declaring his innocence.
Give him a speedy trial and apply the fullest penalty under the law, as he is just as despicable as those who pulled the trigger.
THAT IS TRUE BUT IN A REAL DEMOCRACY HIS CONFESSIONS WOULD NOT BE ADMISSIBLE. HE WAS TORTURED. A MAN WOULD LIE ON HIS MOTHER OR SAY ANYTHING TO MAKE THE PAIN STOP, EVEN THE CIA ACKNOWLEDGES THAT.
Love gt for real, i want you to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and then you will know how it feels.
If the police ever beat you, you will admit to anything just to stop getting licks. Only an alabi can save people sometimes from police beatings. Sometimes, that dont even work. You never know until you are in it.
Guess you were never arrested.

Its unfortunate that the country in which I was born and am very proud of has become the a ” state for the free for all”. Its disturbing to hear that money and power is what my people are concerned with at this era in our time. I remember a Guyana, that made me proud and even though, I no longer reside there I still speak of my country with pride and humility. Who give the police the right to judge anyone, as corrupt as they are. Let the court of his peers or the magistrate in the man’s district, deceide this. He may or may not be guilty of helping the criminals but that does not give the police the authority to assault him. Who’ll be next, women and children?
Daniel De Souza, harbouring “fine man” and was severely beaten by the police what a story???a man should not be found guilty with out a trial,i can see how the guyanese criminal justice system works.it will fabricate, manipulate, use words in the media to make you appear guilty,i don’t buy that crap!!!!!not good at all.
LoveGT4Real why don’t you hang him now it seems you never heard of Due process Innocent until proven Guilty not tortured until confess dame this is not the old Texas days Bro 21st century
Mistake Roman, Guyana is certainly NOT 21st CENTURY.
IT IS LIKE THE WILD WILD WEST
Maybe in about 50 years or so with stable government in between, you can remake your comment.
ROMAN and RYAN what’s wrong with you guys? If you simply took the time to read my comment you should observe that I alluded to the fact that he seem not to be stating a position of innocence.
Nevertheless, allow me to simplify my comments just for you……………………… I am saying that if he was indeed guilty of harboring those criminals then give him the fullest extent of the law.
I never said anything to suggest that I am in support to police brutality, or the subversion of due process.
As a matter of fact, I have been consistently calling on the authorities to make use of the polygraph test, as this would eliminate the need to apply unnecessary
physical pressure during the interrogating process.
You guys should refrain from jumping on your high horses.
Bad company will always get you in trouble even if you did not take part in the crime you still will do the time because you was in the wrong place at the wrong time .Or better yet you know it’s an offence to run the red light but you still chose to take a chance while you think that no one is watching butplease always remember to look up when you finish looking around nothing escapesthe eyes the one who sits high and look low beholding the good and evil that man does .
hey rev i don’t see no eyes in the sky, can you tell me where it is so i can throw some sand in he eyes.
Hold up here,,,,HOLD UP. this guy as it seems is not afforded legal representation as accorded by law, #1. It should be explained to him that a change of venue will not be in his best interest, simply because of predujice. Secondly, he has a right to medical attention while in custody,,,, it’s in the constitution, I am not in anyway defending him, all I am doing is trying to make sure he gets a “FAIR” trial as he is entitled to, again under the constitution. Remember if he does not get a fair trial, this is grounds for an appeal….Make the process fair and keep your personal feelings out of this.
Well said, kindly rewrite it in UPERCASE so they can read it properly. I don’t think they do.
yea you right lindenbanna,BUT in GUYANA laws are not adhere to, hence THE ALLEDGED accused suffers, i see that some bloggers already condemmed the guy to death although it was ALLEDGED that he harboured fineman and his gang when and if he’s found guilty then i believed jugement should be made, and that i believe is fair.
Linden bana –maybe you think that you are in the USa . (1) Maybe you can start a fund for his legal representation . (2) He can use some of the money that Fineman gived him for his medical expenses , (3) Take him back to his jurisdiction to be judged . or better yet —Hand him over to the villagers in Lusignan or Bartica for 1 wk .
Torture=Rough up = Squeeze= Beating =bleeding thru the ear = passing blood=pain in the head=.Confession. if this is true and being a “mason”..I take it, the cops did not left any “stones” un-turn when they were interrogating this guy. No excuse for his injuries. This guy should be receiving medical treatment.
who ever was i the police force in guyana will know…..the normal thing for people when they are charged is to accuse the police of beating…..some of them when arrested fight with the police bang theme self up in the vehicles or in the cell then make the allegation….people who never was or work for the police don’t know what we use to go through and still my fellow policemen going through the same thing….we need to support the police and not just blast them as soon as we read something..
Many thank for the clarification true guyanese.
I would like to say that even here in the UK, very many prisoners are on SUICIDE WATCH where they are kept under special surveillance because without this they will harm themselves.
I trust other bloggers pay special attention to your comment ……..
“some of them when arrested fight with the police bang theme self up in the vehicles or in the cell then make the allegation”
First of all, if you were a true Guyanese, you would have been living in Guyana right now. I admit that some fake it to make it, but there are some that are innocent that are beaten badly to confess a crime.
One rotten orange, spoil the entire bag.
Ryan
TRUE GUYANESE….Excuses, Excuses,,,you call the things that you used to do in Guyana Police work?, well After 29 plus years in (REAL) law enforcement where you had to pass a psychological, and other tests plus have a college degree before appointment, (APPOINTMENT), not yu father or uncle was a Police, and get yu a job…..you learn to treat people as people,,,,you NEVER lose sight of the object of your duties NEVER, you never take the law into your own hands, afterall that’s what the courts are there for, so you cannot compare what you USED TO DO to REAL police work, cause it was not. oH AND NOTHING THAT YOU DID WAS “NORMAL” OR “legal” IT WASN’T THEN, AND IT STILL AIN’T LEGAL NOW,
