Jewels missing, women held

The body of a 41-year-old man, with two gaping wounds to his forehead, was discovered in his Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara home (WCD) yesterday and police have detained three women for questioning as they investigate the murder.

Dead is Veio Persaud called ‘Sunil’ of 29 Meten-Meer-Zorg East, WCD. His body was discovered by a female, when she went to his home early yesterday morning. She has since been taken into custody.

The body was lying in the living room, close to the open doorway. There were two large gashes on Persaud’s forehead, his uncle, Carl Chee-a-tow said. Jewellery that Persaud was wearing was missing and the entire home was ransacked, he told Stabroek News.

Two other females with whom Persaud was seen on Thursday night were also taken into custody. Chee-a-tow recounted that close to 6 am yesterday; he received a call from the female, who discovered the body.

He said that the girl told him that she had gone to the home and saw the front door open with Persaud’s body lying on the floor with blood around him.

Chee-a-tow, who lives a short distance away in the same village, said that he immediately went to the home to check on his nephew, who lived alone.

“The way I saw him, this guy is dead. I went in and look around and see this whole house was ransacked”, he stated. He related that there were two large gashes on Persaud’s forehead and he was wearing only his shorts. He pointed out that jewellery such as rings, chains and a hand band that Persaud usually wore was missing. Blood was still on the floor close to the locked door when this newspaper visited the home yesterday and Chee-a-tow said a detailed check had not been done to detect if anything else was missing.

He said that he called the police, who came and removed the body. He stated that the girl, who discovered the body as well as two other girls, with whom Persaud was reportedly last seen with were taken by the police for questioning. This was confirmed by Commander of ‘D’ Division, Paulette Morrison yesterday.  Chee-a-tow stated that he was told that his nephew was last seen between 11 pm on Thursday and midnight.

He said that persons living close by had said that they had not heard anything during the night and he had last seen his nephew at about 2 pm on Thursday. Several other relatives had gathered at the home yesterday.

Chee-a-tow noted that his nephew had many friends but he knew of no problem that he had with anyone. He stated that Persaud occasionally did catering and both of his parents resided overseas. He described him as a kind and friendly person, who was always willing to help. Persaud also leaves to mourn two bothers, a sister and other relatives.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted shortly.

The murder is the second within a week in ‘D’ Division, which covers the West Demerara and East Bank Essequibo. On Sunday, gas station owner, Brandis Roberts was found dead in his Parika, East Bank Essequibo home.

His hands were tied behind his back and a pair of pants tied around his face, covering his mouth and a post-mortem examination revealed that he had been strangled. One person is in custody as police continue their investigations in that murder.  A number of others have occurred across the country in recent days.

Oops! another brutal killing, just another day, same ole, same ole and another sad story in the headlines.

I think the folks are suffereing from psd (Post tramautic Stress Disorder) and I maybe way off-base here. Yea, that could only be the logic I could come up with cause everyone is becomming a killers. I guess being exposed to all of the daily killing and violence has made folks hardened and numb.

The Iraqi war veterans returning to the US are being diagnosed with such because they have been exposed to war and killing and violence for such a long period. This is leading into high sucide rates, murder, males killing their spouse and……..

This may be a wild shot in the dark. but just like all the children in Iraq who have been exposed to war and the likes for over 20 years. All they know is violence and have been exposed to war for so long, that they have become desensitized. Kill and or be killed in the name of what ever belief they have. Yea, it is definitely not a problem for them to kill each other, the preceived enemy and blow them selves up in the process to tiny bits.

On the other hand the folks in Guyana may just be plan fed-up with everything and may be thinking that there will be no end to the current madness and just plain gave up hope.
Or they may be thinking hey – things are so bad out here, the police may or may not catch me and if they catch me and put me in jail….. So what the heck! for at least I will not have to worry about the messed up system out there, the corruption, the filth the city is in, the hight rate of HIV, someone robbing and killing me for at lil bit, for they will feed me while I am in jail call hell.

Hey if I am living in a dirty, unclean city, and what seems to be hell out here, why not live in an unclean dirty jail / prison. Who konows I may get a $10,000 bond and will be right back out on the streets so I can do it all over again to someone else, or get this! I can disappear then ask the president for a pardon!

What the heck! Who knows what is going on in these folks mind. Seeing that no one cares, gives a darn or have the resource to conduct tests we may never know.

yea – just speculating that’s all

Not again. This has become the “Land of many murders”. Evil has really taken over this land. Guyana needs lots of prayers. People just seem to be killing for any little thing these days. It is as if life is not worth much now man. These kinds of things are really scaring people to come home on vacation. I really love Guyana, but when I think about all these murders it makes me sick to my stomach. I hope the police will be able to catch those responsible and deal with dem behind. Jail them and throw the bloody key. This nonsense has to stop. Overbearing now. May Sunil rest in peace and may his family find the strength and comfort to move on.

If it is not the guns it is the hammer. Sick minds. I wonder what next. All gone crazy with killing. Seems like that is the going thing now. Killing competition on to see who will be the best killer. Bloggers please pray for this land of ours. I really want to go home and get a great Christmas vacation.

On the look out: Have some faith, go, visit for the Christmas holidays, I am! Have yourself a good old GT Christmas, I will! I do believe that in most cases “do nothing, fear nothing”. I am “recognized” in GT because of a certain “conspicuous” wear. Everybody if afraid for me but me, you know why? I thrust in the Lord and I believe him for his promises. So go ahead, thrust him, I dare you. Enjoy. As always, be safe & be well.

where are the churches? pastors r only studying the size of congregration and offering.i ask god to stop the killing in guyana for my b/day, but he did not and i wonder y because he answer so many prayers of mine before, but i will cont’d to love my country as i love god.

    • Marlon Rajijah UNITED STATES says:

You are kidding, right? All this has to do with churches and pastors, huh? You think the persons involved are all church people? Perhaps, all these cases are of praishoners killing each other and maybe, just maybe a recurrence of Jonestown but with a different design both methodological and spatial. I guess with that you can go ahead and castigate the pastors for focussing on the size of congregation and offering.

  10. Ane CANADA says:

Don’t trust the people around you, they are the ones that are more likely to kill you because you can identify them.
