Spanky ,,,,if you want to make it personal, well let’s get to it. I was born in Guyana to a mother who had no education, and was a domestic worker, at the tender age of six I remember us being evicted to the streets for $3 dollars in rent that we didn’t have, I never had much schooling because I was a sickly undernourished child, and no one ever cared, at age 16, my God parents sent me a ticket to the USA on vacation where I overstayed and finished High School and I volenteered for the United States Army, I spent 9 months in Vietnam as a Military Police Officer working in a P O W camp, upon returning to the USA,I got my U S citizenship in 1972 and I became a California Highway Patrolman,,that lasted 1 year, and I returned to New York where I joined the NYPD, and in 1974 the city went broke and I was out of a job, I sat at my window and watched my car being repossessed, I got evicted from my apartment and was homeless again. I went to live with my girlfriend and went to College. In 1978 I got a job as an Immigration Deportation Officer, and completed my schooling, I spent 19 years in the New York state Army National Guard, and had the rank of Chief Warrant Officer, I’m now retired after 29 years working for the Federal Government. Can you top that?. One thing I’ve learned in this life is that you NEVER make excused and blame others for your situation, you’ve got to find your way,,,, not by killing innocent people, not by making excuses, and certainly NOT BY RUNNING OFF AT THE MOUTH without knowing someone’s history. Goodbye, and have a nice day. OH and for your question about why i left,,WHY DID YOU?, I have proved that I can make it ANYWHERE, I’ve travelled ALL OVER THE WORLD including Pakistan twice. And I’ve been listining to you and all i hear is your bleeding heart drivel,,,people like you wouldn’t last 2 seconds in my world, I’d eat you alive.

been there done that and and once you hit the bottom the only way you can go is up. surprising what you can do when you feel trapped, but if you really believe in yourself and the Lord then doors will always open. you just cannot sit there and expect miracles.

some folks do not even know when opportunities are presented to them for they are close-mind and they keep missing the open doors. for instance doing what ever job there is to make it. you do what you have to do in order to survive and that does not mean committing crime. That is the easy way out.

I take the example from my mother for when she was in Guyana she worked a few jobs to make ends meet washing folks clothes, ironing and all kind of hard labor and my father did the same.

so likewise when I was @ the bottom, I was doing substitute teaching, delivery work @ a pizza joint, doing taxes partime, working as a server @ a restaurant, teaching an early morning fitness class to pregnant soldiers @ the military base. and all together that could not even pay the rent.

Yep that was then and I am not bragging, but @ that time I had to do what I had to do in order to survive while attempting to put myself through college. And all of that paid off because now I can say yes – I have seen the light. I am aware that guyana is different and there are different opportunities fer sure. lots of folks would not dare be caught doing certain types of jobs.

just like here in america, the citizens always cries that the immigrants are taking away their jobs. but guess what those are the same jobs that the americans would not be caught doing. pretty soon the immigrants save all their money and then they buy the whole block of appartments or or business and now the americans fret because all the big business are own by foreigners and they are now the employees.

thanks goodness i found strength from the universe and the saviour. yes, the guyana days were really rotten, and that made me tough because it is all about survival. Being a guyanese made me realise what hard work and suffering is all about. My Guyanese heritage has made me the tough no-nonsense person i have beome. it is all about business.

“Well let them migrate” are you serious, the only place they can go without a visa is an island where they are treated like animals, and guess what, they go to find jobs and make a better living for their familes. Why can’t they do the same thing right there in Guyana. I guess to you Guyana is not a country, it’s a place where people are born and their major goal it to find a better location to live.

You’re all hearing but not listening, I’M NOT MAKING EXCUSE FOR ANYONES ACTIONS, NEITHER AM I AN ADVOCATE OF THEIR CHOICES. I’m telling you that for every action there’s a reaction, and actions of the people in charge are causing the reaction of the people they are suppose to be protecting.

Yes a lot of us live in foreign countries, and if you believed that these countries are just as horrible or worse, then why stay? better yet, why even move??? What are we all running form, and what is keeping us form moving back their even with all the stuff we faced in other countries as you put it??? Ok drop the WE; why did you leave, and if you didn’t could you honestly say you would be the same person you are today?

True Guyanese – You missed my point and let me explain why: If a group of public-spirited citizens apprehend a thief and decided to use vigilante justice on him (e.g beating)…that is wrong! If a publice -spirirted citizen or citizens pretend to be helpers and were trying to rob the injured insted of helping them …that is also wrong. But the majority of bloggers would say the “beating” was justified.

Whether someone steals to satisfy hunger or for other purposes – IT IS STILL STEALING!!.
I agree that the plight of Guyanese resident in Guyana is not all the cause of their direct doing they must take their share of the blame!!. They failed to control their destiny. If they put enough pressure on the
‘polytrickians’ there has to come the ideological and other changes necessary for the country’s growth.
It is important because the ‘overseas money well’ drying up!
The relatives in the US and Canada etc, aren’t earning to support tthe terrible times there now!

Most of us including myself came from poverty, I never slept on a bed, nor had a pair of shoes until I came to the USA, but I never killed anyone to survive, I was always hungry in Guyana, and if people remember me, my nickname was “yards”, “boneyards”…lol.

TRUE GUYANESE, what you are saying is so true, I was in Guyana last July on vacation, and a youth walked up to me and explained that he did not have enough money to buy cooking gas, I told him that’s ok, and took care of him, this I’m sure is repeated hundreds, maybe thousands of times a day in Guyana,,,,there is no need to kill someone to support your needs.

OK SPANKY, you said a mouth full,the bloggers are just as frustrated and fedup as we all should be, also keep in mind that some of the bloggers are in Guyana, so I think you’re off base with that. Secondly, if the bloggers say or call the people doing these dispicible crimes whatever, they are not wrong, after all We are the products of Guyana, and we live in foreign countries and face much worse conditions that the people in Guyana,,,,look at the racial, ethnic, Political, Religious, socio economical, climatic conditions we face, but you don’t see us killing people to survive. I grew up in Christianburg with a single parent and seven brothers and sisters, and we had no viable means of support, and we all made it without killing anybody, so don’t jump on the bloggers and make excuses for these criminals.

I guess we are all saying the same thing, Spanky and True Guyanese. We are just expressing ourselves differently. I guess you (Spanky) are saying that the government is @ fautly by not providing the means necessary for adequate living and on the other hand we are saying even though the situation exists, that does not mean they have to kill, rob or live in a wanton manner. And then again, it may be easier for me to say what I am saying because I am not in their position.

I gat yuh! but nah! I can’t get wid de gruesome killing and all that vicious stuff like chopping father’s neck fer lil weed mony or and putting the hammer to someone’s head fuh lil dollars. That is hard to swallow.

The government created the situation and the people are contributing to it also. It is a big mele.

Ok Dove, I’m not going to call a child who’s trying to eat, a theif. Guyana may have always been in poverty like you said, but I remember all the adult males in my family having a job to go too everyday, I remember milk and cookies in school, I remember people’s salaries being enough to provide for their familes, I remember when education was excellent in Guyana and teachers weren’t 17 and 18 years old, police officers weren’t barely adults, I remember a whole lot of stuff that’s not happening no more in Guyana, and I’m not going to blame the Guyanese people who weren’t elected to run the country for the way things are right now.

However I do agree with you when you said we as Guyanese should try to put our heads together and figure out how to help our country, instead of waking up everyday looking forward to read this newspaper, and see who can come up with the best degrading names to call our people.

I’m pretty sure that we all have our own ideas, but it’s getting it to be heard in Guyana is where we should start. Just my opinion.

True Guyanese how could it not make no sense, maybe not to you, bet it would have, if it was happening to you, and I never said it give them the right to do what there’re doing,(mentioned im my comment) but I am laughing my ass off (lmao) when you said you would go around begging.

How many beggers are in the streets of Guyana, I guess only you can see the outpouring of help their getting, I’m sure they would have keeped a spot for you and your kids, (if you have any) on the sidewalks downtown.

And when you all are finished with your daily begging, just hold hands and walk with pride and then take a trip with the money you walk around all day begging for and don’t forget to smile!!!!

what you say don’t make no sense to me …if i am starving or out of work that don’t give me the right to steal..rob.kill.etc….what i will do insted of robbing people i will go to those same pepole and beg//lay out my story and i am sure they will help..as we say hand wash hands make it clean..not only in gyuana this happen i am sorry to say almost anyway some guyanese they are pure disgrace to there fellow guyanese..sorry if i offend you or any other guyanese…i wolud love to see my guyanese people walk with pride any they go..with a smile on there face…
