A 17-year-old boy who was allegedly found with two cell phones that are suspected to have been stolen was placed on bail in the sum of $15,000 when he appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Vicky Suffrein of Albouystown pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful possession.
It is alleged that on December 3, Suffrein was found with two cell phones believed to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.

“I buy de two phones foh three thousand dollars from somebody,” Suffrein said. He stated that the phones were his and that the police arrested him at a cell phone store. “I ain’t do nothing and de police always locking me up but please your worship gimme a chance”.

The magistrate subsequently placed Suffrein on bail and transferred the case to Court Two for January 20.

    • G/t for life SAINT LUCIA says:

Some phones are very cheap. It is possible for the child to maintain both of them. Teenagers save their money to pay the bill or pay for credit. They did not mention the brand of the phone. My son has two, one his dad gave him and one that I got for free when I bought my phone.

  2. Desi UNITED STATES says:

Sandy: I wonder WHY this youth said ‘de police always locking me up’? Mind you he said “Always”? Oh, de police mad to always pick he out. Or, is it that where there is smoke there is usually FIRE??!!

  3. G.t warlard UNITED STATES says:

    • SandHurst First (Flooded Out) GUYANA says:

Correct is right bro…..You see the police are the ones who makes these innocent young men become criminals….The boy buy the fone and i believe him if the police had any sense they woulda check the records for the sim card but they suh stupid that they don’t care.

    • M. Xiu-Quan-Balgobind-Hackett UNITED KINGDOM says:

lemme tell yuh of a police in B/ce. he arrest a hirecar driver at Hampshire, but he can’t spell Hampshire. so he tell de man to drive to Nigg and stop in front de post office and he then re-arrest de man and look at the PO signboard to spell Nigg.

  6. Ricardo UNITED STATES says:

Why can’t someone buy two (2) cell phones for $3,000.00
I know two persons that sold their phones for $2,000.00 each and some people sell them cheaper.
That’s why it is now an offence for cell phone dealers to not keep proper records of every SIM card and cell phone sold
After the police completes their investigation then they could institute charges if necessary. Up until now its just suspicions from the police

    • LINDENBANNA UNITED STATES says:

Ricardo,,,,come on, common sense dictates that if you buy something like a cell phone, you buy it from a store, or a dealer, NOT from masugama Dave on the street, a bell needs to go off in somebody’s head,,,,I’M BUYING STOLEN MERCHENDISE,,,,AND I’LL GO TO JAIL. This is part of the (CCE) continued criminal enterprise, when you buy something on the streets, you create a demand for “possibly” stolen merchendise, which means that when an innocent person goes to work, some scum is in their house because there is a market out there for your hard earned stuff. I say, remove the index finger on this lil crumb snatcher, next time,,,remove the other.

  7. De po youth man is innocent until proven guilty.2 cell pone for $3.000.00 is a bargin. Sandhust keep showing us de light.

    • Ricardo UNITED STATES says:

Okay Lindenbanna hear this, the reason why both persons i know sold their phones for $2,000.00 each was because of financial difficulties. One was bought for $6,500 and the other $4,500.00 so it is possible for a person to purchase two phones for $3,000.00 and not necessarily buy stolen property.
Better to sell them cheap and keep your integrity

  8. LINDENBANNA UNITED STATES says:

This problem, and problems like him needs to be rounded up and sent to an Island somewhere in Essequibo, deliver food and water and farm equipment once a month by boat and let them start their own country, and leave decent people alone.

    • talk out UNITED STATES says:

i always thought you were a grown up with sense but you prove me wrong phones change everyday so if i have a phone and a new one comes out what will i do with the old one not sell it so i do believe he brought it but the police have nothing better to do. Why not look for the real crimnals but they can they will be looking at themselves so come stop stop stop judging other people kids

    • LINDENBANNA UNITED STATES says:

Talk out,,,, Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity…Martin Luther King JR. I do get my phones for free, and give the old ones to charity in the Caribbean, and I don’t think too many people go thru phones at the rate that I do,,,,, phones and cars.

  9. T.Singh UNITED STATES says:

I think you guys are jumping the gun here. people buy and sell their phones all the time in Guyana. Some of those phones digicel are selling worth 2000$ new and around 1500 used. The man could probably bought the phone, and yes,he could have stole it too.

  10. M. Xiu-Quan-Balgobind-Hackett UNITED KINGDOM says:

de story so bare-bones. like SN lack space. no mention of if the shop owner call de police and point out the boy and sey “look he deh deh, look he deh deh. he tief the cellphone.” de police just appear mysteriously and arrest de boy. details details. SN.

  11. octo UNITED STATES says:

I DONT THINK THAT THAT I WILL SPEND MORE THAN 500.00 FOR A PHONE. I THINK 3000.00 IS TOO MUCH FOR 2 PHONES THE KID SHOULD REALISE THAT OR MAYBE THOSE ARE THE NEW PHONES THAT CAME OUT THE OTHER DAY. ANYHOW IT TOO MUCH

  12. SandHurst First (Flooded Out) GUYANA says:

My cousin have 4 cell phones and all he does it top it up!! he works nowhere and goes to school, he is not a thief nor is he a criminal….its this evidence to lock him away and throw away the keys??

  13. LINDENBANNA UNITED STATES says:

SandHurst….Well,,,if he does not work, and he tops them off, let me guess….he rents them to criminals (sorry) I meant (Innocent School Children) . So that they can call home to their mommies on their lunch break. lol.

  14. Gettho Youth GUYANA says:

Then he probably does his homework and assignments projects on these phones.Or, as mention, he rents them out………??????????!!!!!!!!

  15. buxton_man UNITED STATES says:

Octo, you don’t sound like you’re from Guyana. $500.00 Guyana dollars can’t even buy 2 Banks beer.

  16. M. Xiu-Quan-Balgobind-Hackett UNITED KINGDOM says:

Wait, wait wait. Yuh mean fuh sey if ah don’t know beer price in Guyana I is not a Guyanese? All Guyanese don’t drink that thing I does call sweetened wee-wee.
