Gun snatched from guard

A security guard was robbed of his service revolver and a pump attendant of cash when two bandits, one of whom was armed, descended on the Guyoil Service Station, Sheriff Street yesterday morning.

The guard was struck about the body with the firearm during the robbery and had to later seek medical attention at the Georgetown Hospital.
Up to press time, no one had been arrested.

Police said in the statement that the robbery occurred around 5:30 am.
The statement said that it was reported that two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, entered the service station in a motor vehicle. The armed man held up the security guard on duty and took away his .32 revolver and ammunition and then took away $4,300 from the pump attendant.

The men then escaped in the vehicle.

  6. LINDENBANNA UNITED STATES says:

GUNS, GUNS and more GUNS,,,,GUNS over here, GUNS over there, GUNS everywhere….Isn’t the Home Affairs Minister Listening, or is he on the moon,,,,,I predict that until stricter MANDATORY jail sentences are imposed for possession of a GUN, ink will be all over the news papers about gun crimes.. Legislation in Guyana is a BIG JOKE<<A BIG FREEKING JOKE, The Government is a JOKE, all they do is go around the world begging for a freck.

    • amen-ra UNITED STATES says:

lindenbanna having strick gun laws don’t change anything, here in ny the laws are strick it’s mandatory three years if you get caught with a gun and if you commit a crime with it’s more time, but does that stop the criminal no way jose, they have to be caught first.

    • Guy123 UNITED KINGDOM says:

LindenBanna,I like that one, begging for a freck, that is the progress we keep hearing about everyday, they can prappa beg though….imagine a guard cannot defend himself when he is attacked on the job, tell me how can an ordinary citizen defend himself even if armed with a bazooka, another gun for the bandits….please STOP ISSUEING GUN LICENSES TO PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT TRAINED ON HOW TO USE A GUN,and business people should not hire armed guards, just have proper security… camaras and alarm systems should be useful,it would be better than paying guards to sleep!!!!

    • getreal UNITED STATES says:

well we have to start somewhere before anything can change and that somewhere could be gun control, stricter sentences, higher wages, more jobs……………

    • Hello my dear friend LINDENBANNA, I totally agree with you, do you think that there is a way that the citizens of Guyana can block the
” FRESIDENT ” from obtaining money any where he is trying to borrow from ? Please see the more I wrote for president and that is what he is nothing more and everything less. He does not care about his fellow citizens nor the lives of the ” Citizens ” that are being killed and robbed.I do not know why he don’t step down from office.
He is the worst fresident that we ever had in Guyana. He thinks he has GAME but he is so out of touch.I will give credit where it is
due and will not be afraid to say so. Lindenbanna where in the U.S. are you located if I am not too curious. LOL

  7. John Smith GUYANA says:

Ok we come to the understanding that the police only catch 1 out of 100 bandits. The one that is caught is place on bail and go right back to his old ways, hence it boils down to the police catching none out of 100. People have to be proactive and protect their property, this seems hard for some people to get. Dry up their source of loot and they bothing to come for. Now these criminals have one more pice of weapon to add to their arsonal, thank God no one was killed and little was taken.

    • getreal UNITED STATES says:

what you dont understand is that in guyana even if you catch the person on tape there is still alot of ‘get of jail free’ options for these criminals. Not to mention the fact that who in the police force is willing to or going to spend time tracking down the person/s in the image. From personal experience over being victimized more than once this year, i know you can’t get the police in guyana to arrest these bandits and keep them in jail even if you hand deliver them to the station..

  8. Gerry NETHERLANDS ANTILLES says:

Businessmen it is time to move into the 21st century and stop endangering the lives of your employees.
There are systems you can put in place that the gas can be dispensed to the customer at the pump after he pays.
I am sick to read about payrolls being snatched etc. What about depositing salaries into individual accounts at banks of their choice or give them cheques.
Stop those primitive practices and help to curb these bold bandits.
Another gun is on the road to commit more crimes.

    • SandHurst First (Flooded Out) GUYANA says:

ah com on man, you know most businessmen in Guyana loves to SEE DEY MONEY, that’s why they have most of it in their homes!!

  9. Berbicia For Life CAYMAN ISLANDS says:

When will u cheap Businessmen learn that u don’t take bandit lightly, spend some money and secure your business with some cameras, then stay at home and view everythinig.

    • Soldier UNITED STATES says:

I have never heard of a Camera that secure a business yet…Let us know of this one…Set up a Camera and sit at home to see when your place is being robbed sounds more like what a camera will do, but not secure any business. So the businessman has the right to determine whether he wants to see his business being robbed helplessly or whether he is expecting anything at anytime…

    • getreal UNITED STATES says:

Again I will say the cameras will not work unless the justice system works. If you have an image but no one who is willing to follow up to find the person in the image or a DPP that is not will to hire people that prosecutes cases successfully or a body of law that does not allow for these career criminals to be punished sufficiently CAMERAS WILL NOT HELP.
