Magistrate Fazil Azeez last week sentenced a 30-year-old labourer to three years in prison for robbing a De Willem, West Coast Demerara goldsmith of over $2M in jewellery.
Germaine Williams of De Kenderen, WCD had pleaded guilty to the charge of robbery under arms when he appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court to answer to the charge. The charge stated that on November 29, being armed with a gun, Williams robbed Umakant Rampersaud of a quantity of gold jewellery valued at $2,058,900, the property of Rampersaud. He was arrested and charged following police investigations.
Another person, Roquelle Alleyne of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo had also been charged with being an accessory after the fact but denied the charge. Before sentencing, the court was told that Williams had previously been convicted in the court on another charge.
in saudi arabia, a convicted thief is rewarded by severing his right wrist for the first act, left ankle on the second time… imagine the effect that can have in this country if this thief was made an example in this manner!

How are you going to compare Saudi Arabia to Guyana?, in Saudi Arabia, no one has a reason to steal because the Government takes care of their every need, financially, socially, medically, in the areas of education and family, so there is no need to steal, so if you do, they can justify doing the things that they do.
You would have had so many poor people with out wrist and ankles in guyana that you could not have counted…It will simply means that the system that guyana has bribery and corruption would have caused it on the poor.

An armed robbery and the criminal gets three years, poor justice system should be given 15yrs and whippings.
That’s why they would always be criminals, because the justice system is too lenient with the criminals, so it pays for them to rob.

i mean he will get free food if his family dont bring him some. free housing, even if its stink more than dead dog, a bath once in ah while, and no bills to pay, so when he comes out he will be way better off than the average hard working guyanese and on top of that they still have to pay taxes out of their pay…but this criminl gets to live tax free on his splurges.
