Where will the electricity come from? Anyway even if they install electrical pumps with GPL supplying power they will need a fire station at every pump!!!!

HOW ABOUT BRINGING OUT THOSE GOLD DREDGES FROM OUT OF THE INTERIOR & PUT THEM TO WORK. I know of 15 such dredges thats sitting idle & doing nothing.Those machines can be in the channels & can be more effective than those back-hoes& excavators.I hope soon the farmers &residents can get some if not all the flooding relieved from their properties. BS and more BS. Every time there is this rain and floods some poor, powerless koker operator gets canned. I am sure that everyone in Guyana knows what a koker operator does – Open the koker then close the koker then open the koker then close the koker. He does these openings and closings as required based on rising (close) or falling (open) tides. If the infrastructure which includes the actual koker and the channels for the venting of the water are not maintained my question is “What the hell the poor operator got to do with that??? Where are the overseers and other persons who are supposed to inspect the infrastructure and make requests for repair work as needed?? What happen with the Maintenance personnel who would be supervised to do periodic scheduled maintenance like the desilting and debris clearing?? What happen with the District Superintendent/Engineer right thru this Corlette feller and the ’stop the monument construction’ Minister all the way up to the President?? What can this operator do if those persons just mentioned didn’t do what they were supposed to do?
They full of it to fire this guy. If I start speculating on the whys and wherefores SN sure won’t publish this!!

how can a poor koker attendant be responsible? i recall reading the people complained that the koker attendant did not open the koker door when the tide went out contributing to water remaining on the land. i can tell you a koker attendant can make people’s lives miserable. in my village the koker attendant use to get drunk and sometimes forget to close the koker door and next thing you know the whole village flooded out. people could not complain to anybody because he was a pnc member. this guy died peacefully not realizing the misery he brought to so many lives so many times.

Guyana is a beautiful country but its backward system of management is keeping it light years behind the rest of the world. How can a poor koker attendant be responsible for the flooding when all the articles on the issuse so far have stated that the outfall needed desilting? Does this attendant own an excavator to clear the channel? Its time these highly paid government administrators do their jobs or be fired.

Secondly, with the coastal plain being the nerve centre of Guyanese life and the knowledge that its below sea level, why can’t the government invest in modernised methods of drainage. Its time for us to invest in electrical pumps in order to keep the coast from constant flooding. With the adent of global warming and higher sea levels, the future seems bleak for Guyanese living in this region.

wait wait… y was the operator dismissed? look as i may, i can’t c the reason! if the people said the canal was silted up for several months now, how can this be the operator’s fault? the report said the koker was opened when the admin visited so what gives?

Why not fire the supervisors and go up the chain of command doing the same. The bosses do not supervise employees or check on structures that they are responsible for. Sometimes we want to blame the small man, but those in the highest of offices are guilty of the same. The President, the Prime Minister and the Mayor went to work everyday and totally ignored Durban Park with it’s high weeds, trash and clogged drains. And during the crime wave the opposition party was blamed when they knew who were the perpetrators were. Should they all be terminated? I think so.

One resident said that they digging from east to west and it won’t work and they said they told them where needs to be dug but they wont listen, i guess the people know more than the administration. And whey fire the koker operator,and what is it when they say the cannal has to be desilted can anyone explain.
