A carpenter who allegedly stole a gold chain valued over $300,000 from a man was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Twenty-eight-year-old Zazim Persaud of 60 First Street, Agricola, pleaded not guilty to the charge of larceny from the person.
It is alleged that on December 24, Persaud stole a gold chain valued $340,000 from Anthony Jacobs.
However, Jacobs who was also present in court said he was willing to settle the matter since Persaud’s mother had offered to recompense him for the chain.
Persaud’s mother had handed over $200,000 to Jacobs yesterday and informed the court that she will pay the balance today.
The magistrate then ordered that Persaud be remanded to prison and returned to court today where the balance is supposed to be paid.

Mr. Persaud you are a very lucky man to have family to assist you, how come you are a carpenter and you snatching chain? or is it no work in the construction business.
I was just wondering …..in a situation where someone makes restutituon to a victim of a crime in Guyana, do they still carry a criminal record?, and if not why. I do hope however that Mr. Police commissioner has at least a copy of this man’s fingerprint in his criminal data base, and is using it to help solve un-solved cases similar in nature.
Agricola making bad news again ! what a shame !
He’s lucky his mother is helping him , he better be grateful to her for the rest of his stupid life !
Mother, god bless you, but do not bail him out the next time. he should learn from this episode not to lean to the temptation. he has to be stronger and be a changed and respected person for the better; to himself, family and all people. he cannot be allowed to put his family through that hell.
i do hope she is honest and does not receive the proceeds from his illicit activities.
HAPPY NEW YEAR WISHING YOU ALL THE VERY BEST EVER….
