Any young person aspiring to have a sustainable future in the music industry should look no further than Eddy Grant. He has owned every aspect of his career. His songs, his recording studio, his label and by doing so he has survived beyond his own imagination. He has kept his personal life as normal as anyone. I SALUTE YOU EDDY. England should give him a knighthood.

Charriot's assessment that Eddie Grant is ignored by Guyanese is factually incorrect.

His comparing the singing icon to Jamaica's Bob Marley is equally flawed since it does not take into consideration the unique Indo/Afro dynamic applicable to Guyana. Simply put- Eddy is adored by the black populous in his homeland.

Eddie is a remarkable fella, even I know that as young Guyanese! Growing up hearing his music was like medication to the sick in my house and I cannot say that things have changed. I especially love the words to the song Jo"anna" which I believe is a reflection of pre and post South Africa to an extent. The roles of fighting as switched, now Blacks from all walks of Africa are fighting each other as Blacks all over the world; which is sad. I would like to see Eddie Grant in concert in the US / Guyana if that could be arranged. Much luck and love to you Eddie!!

I have also always been a big admirer of Eddy and most of his songs are my favourites, especially "I don't wanna dance"..Like you, Charriot, I tried via Stabroek News to do a feature on Eddy, thereby beginning a series on prominent people in the 'Guyaspora', (this was back in the eighties) from Barbados, but did not get so much as an acknowledgement of my suggestion from Stabroek..

I am extremely proud of Eddy's present return to fame and look forward to hearing and seeing "The Road to Reparation: The Very Best of Eddy Grant".

This guy Eddie Grant,, he hails from my home town Plaisance. He single handedly put Guyana on the musical world stage like Bob Marley.
The only difference is Jamaica embraced Bob, while Guyana and Guyanese ignored Eddie, but he will always be big on my music chart. I was doing a radio program in Long Island 3 years ago and learned that Eddie had migrated back to Plaisance. I ask the Stabroek editor to forward my information to eddie, but got no response. How about that for journalism,, no help at all. I was hoping to get him on an interview and a New York tour. This would have been big!!! I know, because New Yorkers love Eddie and his music.
