                You might have done an article on shrimp paste, if not, here it is. I never made it myself, but I buy it all the time in Chinatown. 

You dry the shrimp head and shells, then ground it up to a smoothe paste with oil, garlic, onions, peppers, salt. It has a very pungent smell, but once you put a spoonfull into your soup and let it boil for a while, the flavor of shrimp comes right out at ya.
