Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, will see its third staging tonight and tomorrow night at the Theatre Guild Playhouse, Parade Street, Kingston.

The Woodside Choir International and Friends had first staged Joseph at the National Cultural Centre on December 30, last year and then again on January 18 and 20 this year, earning rave reviews for Joseph Smith, who played Joseph and David Dewar who played his father Jacob among others.

There were several first-time actors in the production as well, which director Russell Lancaster confessed that he found challenging, but said it was rewarding to see the extent of the talent available. The challenge was not obvious as the cast put on a well-polished production. It was also enhanced by the combined voice of the Marigold Choir and brilliantly narrated by celebrated local vocalist and musician Lianne Williams.

Lancaster in his director’s notes, had described Joseph as a classic with all the vagaries of a modern soap opera, he said envy betrayal, deceit and ultimately redemption were some of the themes encountered.

Tickets for the two Theatre Guild performances, which start at 8 pm each night, are $1,000 for the auditorium and $800 for the balcony.
