Habitat approached Sonia three months ago seeking her involvement in a fund-raising project given her involvement in charity shows and she accepted. The designer said she already had plans to stage a show in December for the Lions Club, but could not decline the request by Habitat.

Sonia has dinner and a fashion show set for November 9 at Le Meridien Pegasus. She has already identified the designers for the show and among them are Andrew Harris, Marcia DeSantos, Chandini Ramnarain and Sonola Forte. Her ready-to-wear collection recently unveiled at the Guyana Fashion Weekend would also be on show.

She said that a Dutch auction is on the schedule but is still uncertain as to what pieces would be up for auction. Sonia said she had only good experiences from her involvement in charity shows in the past and that she is looking forward to “organizing a good show that will hopefully be well supported”. She added that Sarah Wheeler, wife of the British High Commissioner to Guyana is the patron of the charity show.
Sonia said she is aware of the work that Habitat has been doing particularly this year with respect to building homes for people in need, adding that she is willing to help any such cause.

“They are building homes for people all across Guyana, putting a roof over the heads of persons desperately in need there is no way you can say no that,” she added.

Tickets for the show cost $7,000 and are available at Habitat.
