Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday remanded to prison a forty-year-old man who allegedly stole a quantity of spanners and other construction tools from a man.

Leon Jones pleaded not guilty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to the charge of simple larceny.

It is alleged that on December 30, at Smyth Street, Jones stole eighteen spanners of different sizes and two screw-drivers, totalling $29, 500, property of Eckbert Austin.

“Yea boy look wah I come to” grumbled Jones. He was soon ordered to leave the court when he whispered his age and address and refused to repeat it and speak louder. When again asked to speak up by the Court Orderly, Jones shouted “ah must know, wah I deaf or ah look mad or something”. At that point the Orderly walked around and attempted to escort him out of the courtroom but he refused to move. He was then pushed by the Orderly and another policeman into the chute of the court.

The magistrate subsequently ordered that Jones be remanded to prison and that he return to court on January 8.
