Body of missing Stanleytown man found

The decomposed body of a 46-year-old man was yesterday discovered in a clump of bushes in the Stanleytown backdam on the West Bank Demerara.

Dead is Leo Alleyne of Church Street, Stanleytown. It is believed that he committed suicide.

Police, in a statement said that the discovery was made at about 7:30 am yesterday.

A cement sling was seen tied to a limb of a tree within the bushes and a bottle suspected to contain a poisonous liquid was found next to the remains, the police said.

Alleyne’s wife had reported him as missing to the police on November 23, 2008, the release stated.

Stabroek News was told that notes were found on Alleyne stating that he was fed up of life and indicating which relatives should get his possessions.

The body was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
