A 26-year-old man, who allegedly embezzled a quantity of cash that he had received on behalf of his employer, was granted bail yesterday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Claude Stewart of Lot 51 Castello Housing Scheme, West La Penitence pleaded not guilty to the charge of embezzlement.

It is alleged that between November 11 and December 24, Stewart, being a clerk or servant employed by Caribbean International Distributors Inc, fraudulently embezzled $51,258 which he had received on behalf of the company.

Stewart’s lawyer Vic Puran told the court that his client was willing to recompense Caribbean International Distributors Inc the money that was allegedly embezzled.

The magistrate subsequently placed Stewart on bail in the sum of $50,000 and ordered that he return to court on February 5.
